    Hi. I live in Memphis, and would like to help, but am not in a position to financially support anything other than my wife and children. It certainly doesn’t detract from my desire to be a part of the solution, not the problem. Which is why I’m writing you now. Where is the list of proposed solutions? How would I submit my own solutions?

    One of the biggest criticisms I have heard about all of this, is that it’s a great show, but there is no end game. How do we propose to enforce these solutions? We know they won’t simply hand over the keys, so how do we force them to listen, or change years of destructive policy? It seems we would need to go through hundreds of congressional policy’s to root out the destructive and unfair loopholes. How do we actually remove them? Are we just going to send our congressmen and women angry emails, or do we have a more substantial plan?

    The only option I have heard thus far is to vote in better politicians. That is a great long term plan, but I’m not sure this movement has the stamina to last the years that will take. We KNOW this isn’t a simple presidential election away from a solution, so how and what seem to be important dilemmas that MANY people need/want to know.

    I look forward to any kind of response, and maybe some suggestions of what I can do locally to help this movement through these birth pangs. Thank you in advance.

            So, if you take all their profit, who is going to make the product? You expect the product to be produced and distributed for free? Let’s turn this around, and say you were producing something that people needed or wanted. Would you give it away for free, or would you try to make some profit? If you hate the companies who provide these products so much, just quit buying them and make them yourself!

            Brian, There are more powerful motives than profit. Think Empathy, social responsibility. Jonas Salk ended polio by giving away, not patenting the Vaccine. The Cures for Disease War, Poverty, Homelessness exist but suppressed because the profit is too great in the prolonged treatments.(Think Health Insurance, high priced drugs,farm subsidies not to plant, arms sales,foreclosures ) . Think about it. Everyone does better when Every One does better. Profit before people is unsustainable.

            Occupy Christmas
            Here’s the dealio, folks:

            My family will not be shopping on Black Friday. Furthermore, we’ll be occupying Christmas with a moratorium on Christmas shopping.

            There will be no presents for anyone except the grandchildren who are age six and under (because the little ones wouldn’t understand the lack of Christmas presents for a good cause). The rest of us, on the other hand, will be spending time together and donating the money we would normally spend on gifts to Occupy Denver instead. For Thanksgiving, we will be delivering boxes of Grabber MegaWarmers to our local Occupy groups to help keep them warm. Food will be delivered to the downtown camp.

            Furthermore, the kids’ toys will be purchased at a local small business toy shop rather than at big box stores. Our payment will include a note that reads as follows:

            “We are shopping at this establishment in support of the #OccupyWallStreet movement. We are the 99%.”

        Keep on keepin on brother. I am so proud of all the brave folks that are showwing up at rallies around the country. I have been screaming out for this kind of action for years. anow that it’s here I have to pinch myself to remind that it is real. The inconveniences that those of might have to endure to support this movement is minicule compared to the long drawn out pain that we will all suffer if we don’t turn things around now. You can bet you have my support now and forever.

      The only way to change is to go back to the regulatory times to when banks didn’t have that kind of leverage and that can be done by Congress, however they will move slowly. The President must now step up and take control of the nation and he can now in case of emergency and it’s a fucking emergency.

          Right — you can’t count on anyone in Washington, period. When the Movement is real big and effective, then Obama or someone will get on board, but not until. “STop the War” in the 60′s didn’t attract a single politician until virtually every other American was in the streets. Then came McCarthy and Kennedy etc.

            I like Obama. But don’t for a second think we aren’t aware of the fact that he sponsored this movement from day one. OWS is an official response to the Tea Party.

        The companies play by the rules set up by the politicians. The real problem is the politicians who set up doomed programs, and insist the businesses play by the new rules. That’s why the bankers stopped acting like bankers for 5 years. The govt forced them to!

      Greetings,

      My name is Marcelo, I am a Brazilian lawyer with little knowledge of the American laws and legislative system. Even so, I am aware that direct democracy is not unknown to Americans: in several states the citizens are allowed to propose laws (ie., California, South Dakota). Therefore, here comes a question and a suggestion: are the American citizens allowed to propose laws with national amplitude, directly to the United States Congress? If that is possible, proposing a law project pressing for market regulation might be an efficient tool for the American people that are unhappy with the present US situation.
      Here in Brazil, our politicians are not so brave to disregard laws directly proposed by the population (of course we are talking of a percentage of the people, it doesn´t requires the entire population to sign it), for obvious political reasons; on the other hand, they are masters in ignoring mass protests. From experience we´ve learned that although protesting gives us a remarkable sense of unity, it has little or no effect on the disposition of our congressmen to legislate.
      In conclusion, I would like to offer my most sincere sympathy for all Americans; I hope you guys find your way out of this crisis and back to the prosperity that made your country an example for most of the world. Good luck to you all.

            Sweet jesus….Thanks, I know how to use Google. What I was asking pertained to the information above. I HAVE contacted my congress person, with expected results. I was wondering if the person who said only states can submit new laws and bills for vote. A “state” is ambiguous when you add a verb. A state could mow my lawn? Just trying to get more info to what I do best, from where I am. Looks like I’ll just have to learn legal jargon and figure it out. Thanks for , well, ya, just thanks.

            I wondered about this issue a long time ago and found out that Mike Gravel, a “passionate advocate of direct democracy and the National Initiative” (according to Wikipedia), has been promoting this idea for a very long while. I can’t say I’ve researched it further but if you’re interested, you can visit his website http://vote.org/ and check him and his proposal out for yourself. I also think, having lived in CA where this type of lawmaking is part of the political process, there has to be a kind of simplicity to the process which does not tax the voters’ ability to really understand where the law being proposed comes from, in other words, who funded the proposed initiative and what their purpose truly is. I guess that would be one of the first initiatives to be passed: complete transparency, simplicity of language, and limits to funding and who funds. That’s a lot to get started I think but well worth it.

            This is a good thing. I don’t know much about it but what I just read on the website, like, if anything will really come of a petition filed here but it can’t hurt anyway. I wanted to reply to Trey but there was no “reply” button after your post, but in any case, go to the website and see. There is an active petition that has about 800 or so signatures and needs 25,000 that would ask the president to propose an amendment stating that “persons” are natural, you know, flesh and blood, not corporations. It couldn’t hurt to support some petitions there or start new ones. The Occupy movement could certainly garner the support necessary if it were put forward with the input of the general assembly. My opinion. I’m just here at my house thinking. I’m not on the front lines.

            Oh yes. You asked about electronic signatures. You can sign the petition right there on the site and I read somewhere that you can also circulate petitions. I didn’t get into all the details.

          • About Time

            Please do sign the related petitions at the White House petition website. In particular, please support the petition for an amendment to overturn the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision. That decision, which ruled that corporations were “persons” with free speech protections, has greatly increased the ability of corporations to control our public life by financing campaigns in secret. Overturning that decision is KEY to getting the people back in charge. Please include this issue in your messaging.

            Thanks for the help Linda! I am in Memphis, so I don’t have much voice either. I would like to see if we can get some solutions, and other things together so we can submit multiple petitions. One for term limits, another for criminalizing lobbyists, maybe even one to decriminalize Marijuana. We’ll have to see on the MJ, it clearly isn’t a top tier concern. We need to stop the exploitation of workers pensions, and well, each item on the list, really.

            I’m going to push this(these) petition(‘s) as hard as I can. I suggest anyone else who cannot make it to the general assembly do the same. Just because we aren’t there, doesn’t mean we don’t have a voice. THANKS OWS!!!

            In regard to Citizens United, I saw Representative Louise Slaughter on Keith Olbermann. She and 19 other congresspersons are seeking some type of oversight of Justice Clarence Thomas’ apparent conflict of interest in this case due to his wife’s position lobbying for this case. She also said that there is a law of retroactive recusal that could be utilized to nullify his vote in this case if the wrongdoing were confirmed. If that should happen, it would reverse the decision as it was a 5/4 vote. Maybe some sort of petition to pursue this line would be useful.

        again, thanks for your input. At the present time, there is no dirrect measure for introducing legislation at a national level. As you’ve mentioned only a handful of states.

        Its been brought up at the square, the proposal of a 27th amendment to US constitution calling for citizen ballot iniatives.

        Like Marcelo, I am fom another country (Netherlands, Utrecht). The problem I see here is that with winter coming, the Occupy Utrecht (and other) are confronted with homeless people, drunks, junkies and other people who are victims of the current society (or their own lack of possibilities and willingness of course).

        This means people avoid the Occupy place, and councils have the right to stop the movement because of “public disturbance/drunkenness/drugs use/etc”.

        I am willing to donate a virtual environment on the web where Occupy members and other are welcome to discuss subjects, share information and ideas, and even invite politicians and other live! For positive and especially constructive discussions, and preferably decisions!

        My company can offer a 3D MMO world with free entry for around 5,000 people at the same time, in which we can start “Occupy via the Web”, or in other words, get together when needed or wanted, live! Normal 2D web content is useable in our 3D worlds.

        I am willing to keep this running as long as Occupy is needed, or as long as the banks will give me credit ;p

        I tried an email to ‘general@occupy.org’ but can understand they are swamped with e-mails like their reply says. So if someone from the org is willing to contact me, we are willing to offer a lot. Not tomorrow, but today.

        The reason?
        Many, but mostly the fact that things are not divided like they should imho.

        Then we will all be exactly the same and life will be perfect. Sounds like you want to get paid, just for existing. What happens when everyone decides to take without giving. Eventually, there’s nothing left to take. Go produce something that people want, and you can decide how to spend your profits. Keep them or give them away—it’s your choice. But no one should force you to do either. Why do you insist on forcing others to make that choice instead of focusing on creating your own oppy?

Most people need and want jobs. The poor will always be among us and the rest of us need to help them not hate them.       I just heard on the news that there was a great need for back packs. I believe in the cause and would like to help. I have an army surplus business and have a large quantity of packs in a various sizes and would like to make those available to our friends “at ground zero”.

      Now as much as I’d love to donate them, as a one man operation who just recently got his small business off the ground. I can offer pack systems at close to my cost.
      I can offer back packs starting at $11 each. And going on up to $31 for Huge packs designed for extensive use by our troops and are virtually indestructible.

            Thank you for donating the tent, etc. I think this is safer than donating $$$ but in this case I trust that no money will be “stolen”. I can’t send or donate anything at this time but I can give a little computer time. Wish I knew what I could do here. I think anyone who can squeeze in the time should help if there’s any way possible. As far as I know this is the largest protest in world history and if not yet, it should surely become so.

          This is my first time here…and I am very thankful for the Occupy Movement! I am extremely proud of the sacrifice so many people are making on my behalf. I am part of the 99%. Now, I will be looking for ways to help contribute to this movement, in my community and beyond. As to your comment – Perhaps you could post it on politicians’, corporation lobbyists’, or billionaire bankers’ websites!!! I don’t see any of them being too shy about asking for “handouts”!

      I think you have very valid concerns, Trey, and that the movement is already doing a lot to respond to them. One major point I see coming from this movement is that for change to happen it need not start with (or even involve) politicians. Yes, we can do a lot to get better politicians elected and make the system less corrupt. But that need not be the main focus. We can create grassroots programs to help people who are under finiancial stress, and to meet people’s basic needs for free. For example, OWS is feeding thousands of people on the street every, from all walks of life. OWS is providing an education that I think is more necessary than what colleges provide, and isn’t charging money for it. There is so, so much being thrown away in this country every day, and it is largely because the 1% have more money than they could ever spend on things they actually need. We can change that, and politics isn’t the only way. In terms of what messages to help spread and how to go about it, start by clicking on the “groups” tab at the top of the page.

            Exactly right, George. Brian should come stay in the park and wait for some backward-thinking corporate big wig to see the light and sign over his pay check to help support Brian.

            That’s how I’m planning on making a differnce: I’ve called in sick for the next three weeks, so I can participate in the protests. That should be long enough for somebody to notice my plight, empathize with my need for support, and work out the direct deposit detals out with my cedit union.

            What time does the delivery van from Liberatos pizza come? I hope somebody paid for a soda: I’m parched!

      First, make sure you money is in a small, local bank or credit union. Get the money out of the system.

      Second, make sure you have no credit card debt or other debt. I know you may owe on a car or house, but keeping your money out of a big corporation’s hands really helps.

      Think before you buy. Shop at the local stores. I try and buy local and pay a little more. Especially when it comes to food.

      Ask a local theater or cinema to host a movie night where you show something like Inside Job, King Corn, Food Fight or a number of different documentaries pointing up the financial industry’s take over.

      I know these may seem like things that aren’t as important as a petition, but believe me I have been in the vegetarian movement for over 30 years. It has gone from having to buy tofu from Chinese restaurants, the only provider, to multi-million dollar businesses.

      Voting with your dollars, going to local commissioner meetings does more than you think.

      It may seem like the democratic solution will take a long time, but look how quickly the Tea Party movement did so much damage! It is a mistake to say the Democrats are the same as the Republicans. Write your Democratic representative, or support any Democrat up for election or re-election. They will get the message FAST. It takes only the threat of replacing them with a progressive to make them move in that direction, as the republicans did at the threat of being replaced by a Tea Party candidate. All the Democrats need is visible support for progressive actions. Make more noise than the Tea Party and you will get results.

        Tea Partiers are very hard workers, and their demands make sense. OWS’ demands involve getting something for nothing. Tea Partiers had fantastic success because they make good sense. Actually, the Tea Partiers have some of the same complaints as OWS, but the solutions are way different. Open your mind to Conservative/Libertarian ideas, and come see the light.

          You have been drinking from the conservative well too long. How do you know all of them are hard working, and none of the OWSP’s ARE hard working? Sounds like unfettered bias to me. For you to say they made sense is not only an opinion, but again, a heavily biased one. For you to be unable to make sense of what OWS wants, while perpetuating the myth of tea party sanity invalidates your opinion, IMHO. OWS DOES NOT WANT HANDOUTS. We want jobs, and justice. The tea party took our country hostage to achieve their goals. You mean that’s how it is supposed to be done?

        “I could end the deficit in 5 minutes,” he told CNBC. “You just pass a law
        that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all
        sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election. The 26th
        amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months
        & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in
        1971…before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc. Of the 27 amendments to
        the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the
        land..all because of public pressure.

        Warren Buffet is asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of
        twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do
        likewise.
        In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the
        message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

        *Congressional Reform Act of 2011*

        1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman collects a salary while in office
        and receives no pay when they are out of office.

        2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All
        funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security
        system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system,
        and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for
        any other purpose.

        3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans
        do.

        4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay

        same health care system as the American people.

        6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American
        people.

        7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective

        The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen
        made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor,
        not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours
        should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

        If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take
        three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message. Maybe it is
        time.

      There is no point trying to focus on everything, but if we can focus on the things that:
      1) Favours DECENT employment
      2) Reduce inequities by spreading profit from top to bottom
      3) Doesn’t ruin the US economy
      Then we can maybe transform the economy. I like to call these measures wellbeingism measures, or the art of building a “meeting human needs” economy.
      Step 1: Attack basic accounting principles so that employees are no longer considered mere expenses in companies. We want employees to become assets, so that they will be financially valued. It all starts there!

      Hi Trey, I am wondering the same thing. One thing I try to do os purchase as many products I can from local growers, at farmers markets on Etsy, and other small businesses and farms as I can. My motivation has been to support stay at home moms, local farmers, small businesses, etc. I also try to incourage as mamy people as possible to do the same. I know its not much, but if a large enough amount of people do it, it may make a small difference.

      Herewith some of my ideas ideas to counter the “establishment” argument that the occupy movements do not have any clear aims or methods.

      The ideas reject the greed of the 1%, and make positve proposals for lobbying, and action.

      Accepting some fair variation in remuneration and reward gets rid of the “commie” label, but limiting the range meets the aims of the vast majority who are appalled by the obscene rewards of the few.

      10 : 1 Principle

      Achieving “a HUMANE WORLD within a generation”.

      Communism, Marxism (theoretically no variation), and Unrestrained Capitalism ( in practice – unlimited variation) have ALL failed, and must be discarded.
      Communism fails to reward achievement, whilst the Mega rich of Unrestrained Capitalism, hoard wealth and avoid tax, by misuse of favourable regimes.

      Humane World accepts, but sets reasonable, global limits in range of payment.

      The ultimate spread is debateable, but if we consider an ideal of 10 : 1, then those who achieve through, endeavour, hard work, study, skill, and creativeness, will still progress, be motivated, whilst also earning true recognition and respect.

      Why does anyone deserve or need to eat more than 10 times more food, live in 10 times more homes, or waste over 10 times the resources than any another. ?

      10:1 is ambitious, and although ultimately fair, cannot be achieved rapidly.

      HOW ?

      By starting with say 100 : 1 variation, whilst is still excessive, we begin to reduce from 500 – 2000:1 remuneration range (as much as 5 – 20 million USD p.a), of CEOs, bankers, financiers, mega stars etc to a maximum of 1 million USD p.a.

      (Based on the most basic salary of 10.000 USD pa. x 100 = 1 million.)

      The majority must Lobby/Force G20, UN, IMF and governments to agree to global pay limits, and tax levels, this is the only way to remove at a stroke the greedy argument “well, we will move from this country to that country”.

      Then we only vote for parties which support global agreements to progress through 90:1, 70 :1 , 50,:1 & so on, as far as the majority consider fair.

      Maintaining such agreed limits in times of austerity or prosperity, will promote a global willingness to cooperate in sharing the pains or the gains, as we would then truly ——- “ALL be in it together”.

      Later replacement of Income Tax, by GLOBAL taxes in consumption, property/financial transactions, and death, will increase efficiency of collection.

      Efficient collection of tax is more help for underprivileged and less tax for all.

      Higher Achievers, (whilst still earning more), should also enjoy even greater recognition by status, and awards,( at no cost to society), and by less greed and more philanthropic practice, they will earn the highest respect of all.

They never act in a positive manner until someone gets hurt.       I have been observing and participating in Hartford CT events for the last several weeks. I’m disappointed with the apparent lack of organization and direction although I strongly suspect there are both of these in great depth; they are just not being widely and simply communicated. I applaud those who want to avoid making demands because by their very nature, making demands admits limitations and this protest should not admit limitations, yet. There will be time for those but the burgeoning list of changes is not complete yet. So let the volcano continue to erupt but with structure.
      To those who insist on an end game think about this: the current end game of our economy is very clear, n’est pas? So to begin to form an end game statement of this protest, consider the attributes of the current economy which we’d like to change, reverse, correct, make more equitable, generate more direct representation etc, etc. Then let this thinking generate the desired end game for the protest.
      Finally, the protest has not really considered the power it has: I suggest we spend some time acknowledging the dimensions of this power and then allow that analysis to form an Economic Change Team to collect suggestions. The greatest power we have is that the government, the banks, the WalMarts, etc, etc, won’t be able to continue operating without our financial contributions. Why not start by refusing to pay any income tax? On a mass scale, there aren’t enough legal prosecutors to sue everyone and we’d get Washington’s attention.

      The first move politically would be to END CORPORATE PERSONHOOD. It’s the way corps own the political powers and get away w/what they do. Next, not only audit the fed, audit congress and all public offices. Waste and corruption amount to more than we can even imagine or admit we allow.

      I agree and more is needed:
      I support the movement and believe the significant occupation was a need to get noticed at the start. However, I believe that now is the time to be more strategic by occupying only certain places at certain times, similar to flash gatherings. To help define one voice, (1) I believe that a few point people be identified for each current occupied location to place people on a contact list to receive notification as to where the next occupy area will need their participation. This contact list should contain email and phone numbers because not all occupiers have money to afford computers. (2) Information should be provided to each person regarding where to find the next scheduled occupy meet up. (3) Each person should be asked to register to vote – not for a particular candidate; but just sign up and be committed to vote (4) Each person should list the change that they are voicing in an online location (5) Someone should be assigned to place the list of demands in an orderly fashion online to begin defining OWS Voice. One movement strategically engaged for particular activity at a specific place and time with a coherent message.

        But to relieve your guilt, do this: Create a group of 1000 people who do business with this bank, tell this bank you will continue to do business with them if they agree to give you a group discount for staying with them…and promise them that if they can’t give you this new group rate, you and your 999 friends will withdraw all your funds together at a set time and reward the bank that does agree to a group discount with 1000 satisfied customers!
        Power to the people! Occupy style with as bark AND BITE. Let’s put a ring in the bulls nose!!

      The most powerful way this movement can effect change is to coordinate where money is spent and invested. By this I mean…for example: Straight Talk wireless charges a month 45 dollars. But they ask you to buy their year plan for 540 dollars. In other words…the same rate. If you buy the year plan…you are giving them the same amount ahead of time, for a service you won’t benefit from till eleven months into the future. For 12 months, they will earn interest on your purchase! If enough people who use this corporations service got together, and told Straight Talk, here is our deal: give us a lower cost for buying a year ahead! And we will reward you. $540 times 100 people is over half a million dollars of business. But it only works if people work in tandem! Unless Occupy uses this strategy, this movement will fizzle eventually. Wall Street is banking on this.

      This is in reply to Trey Melton’s response on “How to Help”.

      I agree that the way to help is to elect better people. We should elect those, whose primary interest is in helping those in need, the unemployed, the poor, and the middle class, who are struggling because much of their potential income has been transferred to the 1%. To accomplish this, this group needs to become aware of the need to vote for candidates whose purpose is to help them. Too many of this group are mistakenly voting for Republicans against their interests. An educational program is sorely needed.

      One way to ferret out the candidates whose interest is to make life better for this group rather than do the bidding of the 1%, is to recommend to voters that they only vote for those who have pledged not to accept campaign contributions from corporations. Such candidates would then have to depend on the support of this group in order to be elected and would not be beholden to the corporations, as is the situation in the present Congress. Their campaign contributions would be obtained from individuals belonging to the 99%, instead.

      If this promotion was instituted in time for the next election, perhaps some immediate progress would result.

      Is it possible to go after the powers through the patent control, I mean most of the super money was derived through government grants or dod contracts that brought about the intelectual rights that they use to make trillions off of pharmacuticals to electronics, these were paid for by Taxes, do we not realy hold the rights to those patents, the people of the country? I am not well learned but I feel that most patent rights belong to the ones who employed the research in the first place… And all the research done after the fact that was done with the proffits they wrongly witheld from the people… just my feel on the issue,,,I wonder if this would be worth getting in front of the Supreme courts and firing back from this angle?

    Idea for increased/improved visibility

    I have an idea that might increase the visibility of the movement: Get the message out that sympathizers unable or unwilling to join the urban protests should erect tents in front of their residences to signify solidarity with the movement’s basic message: corporate greed (and government collusion) is noticed, not appreciated, and must change. This, if you can get it to happen, would at least produce new images for the press, who will likely soon grow tired (along with their readerships and audiences) of photos and video of tent cities and the usual likely suspects holding signs, however clever they may be.

    Imagine news crews driving down a suburban street in Anytown, USA, filming and photographing lawn after lawn, street after street, neighborhood after neighborhood dotted with illuminated tents. I think that would be a compelling image, one that a broader and larger base of people could identify with and one, possibly, that less-confrontational people would be willing to be part of. It would be quiet (powerful in its contrast to the noisy urban protests), dignified (like most Americans), and unmistakable. The message would be a loud one to the ones we’re trying to reach and possibly resonate more because the messengers would ideally be greater in number, be spread over a larger area, and appear less radical (i.e., more sympathetic) than chanting marchers on police-lined city streets.

    And people wouldn’t even have to sleep in the tents if it was too cold or wet or if they just didn’t want to; they could just leave them illuminated at night so they are visible to neighbors, the press, business owners, officeholders, and the nation. People without camping gear could make and fly some kind of flag with a tent on it (with maybe a slogan on it, like “Occupiers: We’re in Tents” or something cleverer) or draw a sign and put it in a lit window (which could work also for non-homeowners).

    I think this would need to happen very soon, too, before something happens with some fringy occupier at one of the encampments that brings disrepute or even shame on the whole movement.

    Anyway, that’s the basic idea. I’ve thought a bit about how best to execute this plan (risks, benefits, etc.). If you’re interested, you can e-mail me back and I’ll share my ideas with you. In any event, good luck with the movement. I hope it brings about some positive change.

      Hi–I want to put forward, again, an idea I (and apparently others before me) have/had. I would like to see each city’s occupiers pull about 6 people aside and load them down with multiple copies of “We are the 99%” signs–then take them through neighborhoods, ringing bells, giving short shpiel and asking them to put a sign in their window–as a show of solidarity—would love to see neighborhoods papered–apartment buildings, all floors etc. Pics speak even louder than words–like a “mad as hell” window scene!!!

By giving a simple yet very symbolic way for the millions who so badly want to participate but for many reasons cannot (lucky enough to have a job, family to support, live away from urban centers, etc). How do we get the GA to consider this and get the word out? Hell if not we may have to start it on our own.

      I love this idea and am putting my tent up now. For the first time I am sad I live on a dead end street. I am sending in supplies. I am limiting my money in an account and I am buying local. Time for survival mode. Let’s make a change. And if we all loose our jobs because we don’t need tellers, big store clerks and baggers, than we will know we are creating a change and what comes next must be better than this. Buy local and with a survival mode mentality.

      I have no website. It looks to me like the best way for us to support is to find a local MoveOn group, or Occupy group, or environmental group, or any group that is looking for a way to end the Washington DC mess (which could take years) and then when a National Day of Demonstrations is planned get out there with everyone you can find to attend. Occupy is a wonderful movement. There is so MUCH wrong that eventually some brave elected official will have to realize that we want the corporations out of our government. The idea that a corporation is a living feeling breathing human being is a travesty. Laws written by lobbyists give big pharma, big oil, big agri-business etc. etc. everything they want and must be rewritten.
      Sure we want capitalism and personal responsibility is what we are all about — HOWEVER we don’t deserve the predatory immoral mind set we have now.

      Also, can you tell me how to get my valid gripes listed and noticed by the most people? They are: student loans that are crippling young peoples futures, the most assinine oppression in a “free society.” Young people borrow, work, study, improve, train and plan and come out of the colleges with huge debts and loans to repay soon with not many chances at jobs that can use and pay for their skills and training. You must pay!!!!!
      The other oppressive issue we should deal with right a way is the “fire at will” deal that companies can use to get rid of even their best workers if and when they wish. We have got to do something about these atrocities!!

        Is that an advertisement? I don’t tweet, as I am not 13. While I am glad you guys are not living in squalor, this board seems to have the feel of a dorm room orientation, moreso than a political movement. Hope that doesn’t come out wrong. I want to help, but do not have money to offer, live on a dead end street, and can only hope your laundry issues are resolved, but These are not solutions to the problem you are representing.

        There seems to be less communication about the issues than I expected. This is not burning man, it’s a movement, why does it feel like someone is going to post that someones mom brought brownies and they are in the “community” room sooner than anyone is going to take this seriously and start working out the details of affecting actual change to the system that has paralyzed us for so long.

        I promise I’m not a conservative in sheep’s clothing, but where is the group hammering out the issues with volunteer tax advisers and economists? Who has the history majors in a closet? We are about to be laughed out of our freedoms if nothing comes of this. It will be the 60′s all over again, and the detractors will have more ammunition to dissuade the sheeple from changing themselves, or the self serving habits which have allowed the powers to be to reign for so long unattested. The window is closing, time is short.

        At first everyone was interested in what would come of this. Many were willing to offer a free pass to the disorganization. While this is certainly more organized, it seems the agenda has tapered to simply surviving. While a good strategy in life, a movement that does not make.

        The attention is there. No need to hang signs, or tents. Everyone is already watching. Not that they are bad ideas to show symbolic support, but you already have a VERY strong support base hidden, quietly waiting for debate on new policy, or possibly ways to oust an entire congress based on known deception of the people. An amendment to the constitution to allow congressmen and women to be accountable and punishable by law might need to be kicked around. Where is that conversation being held?

        We aren’t going to make much headway by trying to vote them out. They changed the voting game so much no one has a chance to get an honorable candidate to the plate, much less into an office. You only have to repeat that daunting task 535 more times (ending with a new president). This level of corruption does not simply go away, and the changes we need are incredibly complicated.

        Please someone help me keep my hope, and maybe point me towards a group that is more involved with strategy to move the country forward, not just the movement its self. Hope no one takes that the wrong way. Thanks in advance!

There are strategy sessions all day every day down at Zucotti Park. If you are in NYC, go down there, if not, start holding strategy sessions in your community. Stop waiting for someone else to lead. The time is for all of us to step up now. There are daily seminars at OWS that address how we can take our government back so it is an actual democracy again. Tonight there is a teach-in at Washington Square Park. It is your responsibility to become informed.

While that’s great for those who are there and able to participate, what about the rest of us, who want to do more than simply put up a tent. Or go buy a tent to put it up to signify I am part of a movement I have not had one ounce of say in as of yet. I don’t need people in NY making decisions for me ant more than I need people in Washington. It isn’t really about the people, if only the people in New York have a say.

            Your dismissive tone of my concerns suggests to me that you think everything is going fine. That’s great, now tell me where we are on the list of solutions, or is this just some big outside slumber party for you, and you can’t be bothered with such nuances as the future of our country.

            And for your final comment, yes it IS my responsibility to be informed. Where would I go to do that genius? I have to drive to New York to get in on the discussion. It’s your responsibility to not be a douche, can you manage?

          people are working around the clock. you should watch the general assemblies or read the minutes each day or as much as possible. that is the best way to be informed of what is happening as we speak. horizontal democracy takes a lot of time! get involved however you can!

    First off, I want to applaud everybody participating in peaceful revolution. Its about time people start standing up and demand to get heard. I live in Norway where Im proud to say we have a quite open and transparent society. Elected officials actually represent the people, contrary to American (my social-democratic Nordic view).

    Call me a communist/socialist or whatever you like. I on the other hand view myself as a humanitarian. It`s something fundamentally wrong with a system that makes the rich, richer and the poor, poorer.

    To further promote your cause you have to use as many means as possible (peaceful that is). Be creative.
    One idea could be to go around in apartmentbuildings and get people to hang up post-its in their windows. “occupywallstreet”, on windows on a couple of thousand households across the country would catch the eye of many, and it`s a fun way to get the message out there.

    Is anyone working on a more systematic matching of needs with donations? It looks like there’s no way for someone donating to know if a given need as been met or not. If so, I would imagine there must be a lot of redundant donations–both for a given location and between locations. I think people would also be more likely to make a donation if they had more information–like, say, “as of [date] there is a need for xx meals, or for xx sleeping bags, in location Y.” I am not at all a techy but would imagine it wouldn’t be too hard to set up something pretty useful on the web that would help match donors from all over with all the various occupy sites. If there’s anyone out there either familiar with the needs and current system, or with the techy side of how to do this, please say hi. Thanks!

    There are many misguided efforts, and it seems that the OWS movement has become a platform for just about any concern. A movement needs to focus and be very clear on what it seeks to accomplish.

    First let me say that this problem is not liberal or conservative, democrat or republican but it is a common problem we all share. One key point must be stressed we are all affected by the issue at hand.

    The basis of the problem is the laws that have enabled and perpetuated the problem. If you look at the fall of the exchange in 1929, its cause and the reaction by the government you will find most of the problem. In 1929 only ~10% of all businesses were public and the remainder was private. ~2% of the population were involved in trading stocks and most of the individuals we very heavily leveraged (They bought on credit).

    Next the market dropped, individuals lost their ability to pay off their margin accounts and wiped out the capital overnight in the banking system, Couple that with the hysteria of the people running on the banks to get there gold out and you have a recipe for disaster.

    For most they were not initially affected by the falls of the exchange in 1929 but when banks failed they felt it. Businesses lost credit to operate, accounts were wiped out and small private business failed. No fault of their own but the fault of the overzealous banks. Individuals found there savings wiped out alongside the private businesses and the world plunged into the abyss.

    The reaction to this was FDR and the 1933 securities act and the 1934 securities and exchange act. What these two pieces of legislation did was strip the ability of the small private business (who did not cause the market collapse) to raise capital in a traditional form, Bonds. Direct investment was for many years the mainstay of the entrepreneur. It put the restrictions on who could invest (Qualified institutional investor) and how the investments could be sold. It stripped the ability of the individual to invest and make the high returns they became accustomed to and placed all of it into the hands of the very few 1%.

    Today if you are a business owner there is a glass ceiling of about $3 million dollars where a business could potentially get debt to expand, retool, or modernize. The Wall Street and Banks prefer an Equity offering. How often do small business owners sell the majority share of the company they own under a public offering or private sale (sale to high net worth’s) to raise the capital they need. The horror stories of this arrangement are very clear. They give up control, get voted out of the company and the new share holders shut them down move the product manufacture to China to maximize the return to the High Net Worth investor (new owner).

    The laws perpetuate the problem. Now remove the Glass-Steagall Act and it becomes a high net worth orgy.

    Focus, access the laws, and fix the system that perpetuates the behavior.

      Great info. So if we can combine Marcelo’s idea to get enough people to start a petition to submit a movement to congress for vote, we can put (among other things) the re-institution of the Glass-Steagall Act. Now we’re getting somewhere.

      Does anyone have a lawyer handy to investigate Marcelo’s claim? We need to know ALL of the ins and out of the law on this. If it passes, lets get a few petitions started to get some of these ideas into law by circumventing congress all together. We may find we do not need congress.

      This is all predicated on the notion we get some solid ideas together and work the kinks out of them.

      According to their own 10K and 10Q reports financial auditor’s disclosure statements, many of these firms have admitted that “factors raise substantial doubt about the company’s ability to continue as a going concern.” They have had little or no revenue, according to their financial reports, and substantial losses, for periods of seven or eight years. One of these companies has been cited for failing to file financial statements since 2001. Another has been cited by the SEC for press releases that misled investors on expanding business contracts that didn’t exist. They will do anything they can do that takes people’s attention off that kind of record, especially if they can convince a law firm to take the case on a contingency basis, which is what has happened.

Stock settlement is T+3 for all US investors who has the free pass?
      5) My favorite question is for the Brokerage firms, When we do a trade we pay a commission for the trade. Part of that commission is make sure the trade is settled. If the trade is not settled does the Brokerage firm count that commission as earned? The never really earned it yet. So my take on it is that all the Financials of these Firms are wrong and should be adjusted to remove that income they did not earn. Remember everyone gets paid a Bonus at these firms they never really earned since the numbers are WRONG. What accounting firm do they use and who there signs off on that?
      6) My Final question is does anyone have any idea who owns the DTC? Take a look and see. A quick Hint,,, Not the Govt BUT all the WALL ST PLAYERS own it.. Wonder why its in their favor.

    My parents go to a conference every year for a mutual fund company (Baron Funds) that they invest with. This guy that founded this firm, Ron Baron, is a billionaire who bought a $100 million property in the Hamptons a few years ago. He has this conference every year at Lincoln Center and my mom tells me that every year the entertainment gets more elaborate. One years he will have Seinfeld perform and the next he will have Elton John. And that is just the headliners,,,,there are lesser known perfromers (who are still well known names) that perform at lunch! She think that he spends $5 million on this conference. This year it is on 11/4 at Lincoln Center and CNBC always broadcasts live from there…..seems like a good place to protest to me.

      Go out and try to punish the person that lavishes a great experience on those who were wise enough to invest their money in his company? Makes no sense. Why do you begrudge those who are successful and want to enjoy their success with others? Who are you to decide how anyone else spends their money? What if you wanted to throw a big party for your friends, and protestors came and said it wasn’t fair that you got to have such a great party when they don’t have any food. How does shutting down the party help a homeless and hungry person? It doesn’t!

        What money should they invest? The money they have to work two minimum wage jobs to pour into their family? Surely there’s plenty left at the end of the month to drop the rest into their 401k and investment portfolio. You elitists are so clueless. You probably had a job that paid well before the crash, right?

        You probably didn’t see your wages cut, I’m guessing. Any of your benefits decreased? That’s where it starts. They trim a little off the top with paid vacation becoming just vacation, no pay. Sick days start shrinking, then they are just unpaid days off. Stock options and investments back into the company stay around, since that helps increase the company’s worth.

        We used to have one income homes. Don’t you find it odd that there are so many two income homes, yet 47% of the population doesn’t make enough to be taxed? What money are they supposed to “invest”? How is it begrudging those who are extremely “well off”, by wanting a chance to be “well off” yourself? People just want to be able to pay their bills without working themselves to death, is that too much to ask?

        Not sure how you are unable to see the gap between 300% pay increase over 40 years to 40% increase as wrong or unfair. Perhaps you should pull your head out of the sand and look around you. This isn’t happening on your tv, or monitor. Open your door, it’s happening out there. Look for yourself.

          Good explanation, Trey. I keep wondering why people are so quick to lay off their ‘team members’ instead of cutting back on executive pay. The boom/bust cycle of our current economic system cannot go on. There has to be a way to spread the wealth so that everyone can make a living.

      I am very disturbed by this comment.I thought the idea of this movement was that neither party (actually it is only one party) is acceptable. – that our form of government as it operates must go and be replaced by a real democracy. Was planning to come to NYC this weekend but if this is the attitude I find there I will have to rethink my support. A crime is a crime no matter who commits it or whether there is an “R” or a “D” next to your name. Obama should be in jail for mass murder, torture, rendition, assassination…just to name a few. He is no different than his predecessors, maybe worse because he pretends to be something else. He is a neocon not a progressive and anyone who supports him is devoid of principles and humanity. And I saw moveon mentioned above…they are just trying to co-opt the movement as some other pretend “liberal” groups are – they are total Democratic insiders – making people think they are raising funds for the Occupy Movement while using them to fund Obama’s campaign. During the Bush years it became obvious that moveon was not a liberal group when they outright refused to help in the impeache Bush movement. Pay attention to people like Chris Hedges, Glenn Greenwald, Col. Ann Wright. Things are so bad that little tweaks aren’t going to fix things…we need massive change and that is not going to come by propping up the corrupt bastards that got us into this mess.

    I just saw the 99% Declaration and the call for a National General Assembly next year.

    What I’m concerned about is that it may be getting too late. It may already be too late. Although I know organizing may take some time, waiting until July of next year, tnen waiting until possibly 2014 to field independent candidates may just come after too much damage has been done. ]

    Not that I have all the answers, but I humbly think the time frame needs moving up.

    Could you put me in touch (email is fine or phone) with someone who could personally be responsible to pick up a package at the UPS location from Primal Foods? I wrote to them to ask for a donation of some of their vegan “meatless” jerky strips to pass out to the pubic (or “occupiers” as it were.) They called me back and said they would be happy to send a donation of some of their product but would like to know if there is a vegan or vegetarian person who would like to be responsible to pass them out.. because such person would likely have product knowledge and be able to answer questions about the product or the meatless diet in general.

    I wrote to Primal Foods after reading that part of OWS’ manifesto is to shed light on the deceptive food supply system that enslaves animals and keeps the public in the dark about the environmental and health degradation inherent in meat agribusiness (the consumption of who’s products is also the primary cause of most epidemic disease in our country, causing the healthcare and exacerbating the housing crisis by medical/financial crippling) . I was happy to receive a personal call from the company saying that they would be glad to support the occupation if I could supply a contact for them.

    We have incredible power to make positive tangible change. One of the criticisms by people not involved in our movement are the large numbers of people just sitting around with signs or occupying themselves with hacky sack or other distractions. We can circumvent these criticisms, draw huge press coverage and make a serious impact on our world by engaging in public service outreach projects in our occupy cities. 500 people donating 4 hours per day to a public service project amounts to 2,000 man hours per day, 10,000 hours per week…40,000 man hours per month.

    Imagine the impact on New York City Housing Authority Project Low Income Properties and their residents when 500 volunteers show up with paint and supplies to remove graffiti, repaint and repair their residences and surrounding areas. The same applies to inner city schools, parks and neighborhoods. What a practical, positive impact we can have on thousands of deserving lives in the cities we occupy.

    What better way to show unselfish caring than by investing in those who do not have the resources or time to help themselves. We can create “riots” of compassion and found a revolution of renovation. Improving peoples’ lives and environment.

    Thank you folks for your great ideas to help and promote the Occupy Movement. Obviously money helps but other actions and contributing effort is very meaningful, and for many more practical.

    We all know something is very wrong with the global profit economy, and I would suggest one of the issues is that money profit and GDP growth are the only measures of performance anyone in finance, economics or anything else has ever been taught. Listen to Bloomberg News, CNBC and the rest and you will see the problem. We all know that quality of life is not just about money, it is much deeper than that. It has many dimensions, most of which are ignored in conventional performance metrics.

    I have been agonizing over this issue for a very long time and have attempted to put together something that will be better. I call it TrueValueMetrics (TVM) … meaningful metrics for a smart society. The concept is to expand the GAAP accounting framework to include value as well as money. and to make a place in society the key reporting entity, not the organization. In this structure and organization is ‘in’ society not ‘on top of’ society.

    Value is everything that goes into quality of life and the sustainability of society and the planet. It is subjective and it is difficult to quantify … but there are techniques for this that are relatively simple.

    A key accounting concept is the relationship between a balance sheet and the profit for a period. In TVM there is the same concept. As I see it the ‘purpose’ of all economic activity is to sustain and improve quality of life. In TVM State of Quality of Life is like a balance sheet at any point in time for a place. Progress is ‘valueadd’ which is like profit, but using a value construct and not just money. As in money accounting where the change is balance sheet is also profit, the change in state of quality of life is also ‘valueadd’. Performance is how much resources are consumed in order to generate ‘valueadd’.

    When we use TVM value thinking when looking at Goldman Sachs we can see profit, but are we able to see valueadd. I certainly have difficulty finding it.

    When we look at an organization like Doctors without Borders I cannot find much profit, but I can easily find valueadd,

    When I look at a place with a good school, I cannot find profit, but I can find valueadd,

    A community that is safe, and a community that is respectful and has a nice small police force has a better state than a community that has violence, confrontation and needs a huge aggressive police force.

    You get the idea. There is a lot more.

    If we can put value in play as a metric of performance …. the next step is to start a process that makes the capitalist market economy evolve into a new value market economy #NuVME. There are a lot of philanthropic funds already in existence but they are not using particularly helpful metrics and there is no effective ‘market’ that give them support in the way the profit economy gets support.

    Note I am not anti-capitalist … but cannot see how a capitalist market economy is ever going to get to grips with the huge problem of global poverty and the massive backlog in essential infrastructure and under-educated and under-healthed people on our planet. Technology is good enough to handle all the production we need, but we have no mechanism to get critical economic activities financed.

    These ideas have been evolving for a very long time … I think they are pretty sound, but I am sure better minds than mine will be able to (1) improve the concepts and (2) make them practical on top of 2011 technology.

    My computering started way before Jobs and Gates came on the scene … and while I have tried to keep up it is now a race that I acknowledge I am losing. The concepts remain valid … the right platform might make the ideas fly.

      5) My favorite question is for the Brokerage firms, When we do a trade we pay a commission for the trade. Part of that commission is make sure the trade is settled. If the trade is not settled does the Brokerage firm count that commission as earned? The never really earned it yet. So my take on it is that all the Financials of these Firms are wrong and should be adjusted to remove that income they did not earn. Remember everyone gets paid a Bonus at these firms they never really earned since the numbers are WRONG. What accounting firm do they use and who there signs off on that?
      6) My Final question is does anyone have any idea who owns the DTC? Take a look and see. A quick Hint,,, Not the Govt BUT all the WALL ST PLAYERS own it.. Wonder why its in their favor.

    Are we really afraid of being protectionists….or should we STOP IMPORTS….or slow it down a lot so our decimated industries can get back in the game and compete against Asia and other foreign countries……..

    After 45 years of offering Exports to Asia it is no wonder we have no jobs at home in America……plus our richest companies now are Importers but do not have jobs for Americans at home…as we have finally hit the Wall…finally…I am not surprised as everything now is going up in price…it is called inflation for sure….that will be the final blow to America….

    How about picketing all the US Malls who carry 95% of Imports like in my 2 industries….Manufacturers who are hanging on still and who are still in business but have been decimated or many others have gone out of business for the last 45 years because they could not compete with Foreign countries or American Importers either………..so “America” …. and at any store that sells Imports…Picket them…they will eventually get the message and sell American products eventually …….and say in your picket signs that WE WILL NOT BUY IMPORTS ANYMORE…and…SELL ONLY MADE IN THE USA PRODUCTS….those IMPORTS benefits all the Special Interest Folks who eliminated our Manufacturing bases over the last 45 years…with the help of our Government and with campaign financing which they offered to legislators to pass just the right bills for them in exchange……..I have seen it happen with my own eyes….IMPORTS are our long lost jobs mostly transferred in Asia…..picketing with signs will raise the ears of those Buyers who put Imports in our Retail Stores and who sell them willingly to naive consumers……consumers who have zero ideas that they are eliminating American Jobs….so…..!!!!!!

    Also wondering why we have a 2% of rich folks who have as much money as the rest of the 98%…IMPORTS are full of benefits and profits…that is why our Retailers don’t buy American made products….as there less profits in buying or selling American products for sure….this issue Imports has contributed to our demise economically for a very long time….

    Many of us are already Liberals….but Liberals & Conservatives and folks in the middle have all created this economic problem over the last 45 years……..and it has not helped in this century or the last one to have 2 parties that can’t work together in Washington or in our 50 States………as they don’t have common senses on how to fix America….how many times more am I going to vote out legislators and replace them with another while the problems get worse after I voted…….!!!!!

    What do we have to be and do to overcome our present situation….???? START OVER…!!!
    Here is one of my ideas to fix our economy first and get our jobs back…….STOP IMPORTS…!!!…and stop trading Boeing Airplanes for Sweat shirts with China……it won’t work well for us to Trade this stupid way……..Imports are Imports that have eliminated our jobs sources at home….!!!!

    This email has been forwarded around several investment banks. I received it from an investment banker who, himself, found the email appalling. I have left out the specific names of the people in the chain. I think it truly showcases some of the warped mindsets that drive Wall Street, particularly the part about “only” making 85K a year, and believing that theirs is the only job that requires long hours. Please let me know if it is of any help to your campaign.

    ‘We are Wall Street. It’s our job to make money. Whether it’s a commodity, stock, bond, or some hypothetical piece of fake paper, it doesn’t matter. We would trade baseball cards if it were profitable. I didn’t hear America complaining when the market was roaring to 14,000 and everyone’s 401k doubled every 3 years. Just like gambling, it’s not a problem until you lose. I’ve never heard of anyone going to Gamblers Anonymous because they won too much in Vegas.
    Well now the market crapped out, and even though it has come back somewhat, the government and the average Joes are still looking for a scapegoat. God knows there has to be one for everything. Well, here we are.
    Go ahead and continue to take us down, but you’re only going to hurt yourselves. What’s going to happen when we can’t find jobs on the Street anymore? Guess what: We’re going to take yours.       TORONTO (Reuters) – Goldman Sachs Group Inc President Gary Cohn said on Thursday industry agrees that naked short selling should be banned.
      “I don’t think anyone in the industry has any problems with banning naked short (sales),” said Cohn, who is addressing a securities regulation conference here.
      “The concept of naked short sale is not a great concept. In fact, from a regulatory standpoint the more regulatory certainty we get on naked short sales the easier it is for us to force these down on our clients.”

One of these companies has been cited for failing to file financial statements since 2001. Another has been cited by the SEC for press releases that misled investors on expanding business contracts that didn’t exist. They will do anything they can do that takes people’s attention off that kind of record, especially if they can convince a law firm to take the case on a contingency basis, which is what has happened.

      3) Wall St has the most powerful Banks and Brokers in the World and yet we cant settle a trade on time? WHY? My guess they don’t want to
      4) Why does a public company have to be at the mercy of the Stock settlement system? Does the DTC(name of stock settlement system) help a public company in anyway? (NO) They are there to settle trades and get a fee for it. Yet when they don’t settle trades on time they still get paid and the stock of these companies get destroyed for NO reason at all. Stock settlement is T+3 for all US investors who has the free pass?
      5) My favorite question is for the Brokerage firms, When we do a trade we pay a commission for the trade. Part of that commission is make sure the trade is settled. If the trade is not settled does the Brokerage firm count that commission as earned? The never really earned it yet. So my take on it is that all the Financials of these Firms are wrong and should be adjusted to remove that income they did not earn. Remember everyone gets paid a Bonus at these firms they never really earned since the numbers are WRONG. What accounting firm do they use and who there signs off on that?
      6) My Final question is does anyone have any idea who owns the DTC? Take a look and see. A quick Hint,,, Not the Govt BUT all the WALL ST PLAYERS own it.. Wonder why its in their favor.

    We would like to help out by sending a generator, but what exactly is the plan for keeping them? Can the NYPD just seize private property and not return it? Or did they give you a place and time to reclaim the ones they took? Would it help to put people’s addresses on them (far away ones) so that if they seize stuff and have to return it to “rightful” owners it will cost them $$ to ship? (Thus making them not want to do it at all?) Or is there a way to designate the stuff as medically necessary for warmth? (A friendly doc could help there.)     Someone sent me this idea for a congressional reform act. If someone could/would get a petition started and get 25000 names and submit it to the white house – who knows – it might actually get put in action. It would certainly make a big difference in the way things are done and make politicians more mindful of who they are supposed to be representing, i.e., the 99% as well as the other 1%.

    2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.
    All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

    3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

    4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

    5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

    6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

    7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this
    contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

        The jobs bill, in theory should produce employment opportunity’s. Just like Solyndra, which has become the talking point poster child for poor investments, sometimes things don’t work out like they should. Of the $500 million Solyndra got, that was only .5% of the money allotted to companies for R&D into new technology’s. Of the jobs bill money, what went to creating NEW jobs VS keeping existing jobs is unclear. Transparency is required. You probably think that’s a bad idea too.

We will also have, for the first time, a single agency with responsibility for consumer protection in the financial sector: the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

    I will continue to work for fiscally responsible policy – including a return to the Glass- Steagall separation of commercial and investment banking – to rein in Wall Street and put an end to the concept of “too-big-to-fail.” Bringing transparency to government and to the financial markets by fighting for smart, effective regulation and oversight would help avert a similar catastrophe like this from happening again.

    There are manuy suggestions for furtheribng this great movement, which, though growing, seems unable to get support of our political leaders, the only ones who will change the system.
    Suggestion: NO TAXES till the very wealthy and the corporations pay their fair share.
    We no longer have representation but do have taxation.

    There will of course be repercussions. But enough people refusing to pay till things change will catch
    the attention of the media and those in charge.

      TORONTO (Reuters) – Goldman Sachs Group Inc President Gary Cohn said on Thursday industry agrees that naked short selling should be banned.
      “I don’t think anyone in the industry has any problems with banning naked short (sales),” said Cohn, who is addressing a securities regulation conference here.
      “The concept of naked short sale is not a great concept. In fact, from a regulatory standpoint the more regulatory certainty we get on naked short sales the easier it is for us to force these down on our clients.”

      According to their own 10K and 10Q reports financial auditor’s disclosure statements, many of these firms have admitted that “factors raise substantial doubt about the company’s ability to continue as a going concern.” They have had little or no revenue, according to their financial reports, and substantial losses, for periods of seven or eight years. One of these companies has been cited for failing to file financial statements since 2001. Another has been cited by the SEC for press releases that misled investors on expanding business contracts that didn’t exist. They will do anything they can do that takes people’s attention off that kind of record, especially if they can convince a law firm to take the case on a contingency basis, which is what has happened.

      5) My favorite question is for the Brokerage firms, When we do a trade we pay a commission for the trade. Part of that commission is make sure the trade is settled. If the trade is not settled does the Brokerage firm count that commission as earned? The never really earned it yet. So my take on it is that all the Financials of these Firms are wrong and should be adjusted to remove that income they did not earn. Remember everyone gets paid a Bonus at these firms they never really earned since the numbers are WRONG. What accounting firm do they use and who there signs off on that?
      6) My Final question is does anyone have any idea who owns the DTC? Take a look and see. A quick Hint,,, Not the Govt BUT all the WALL ST PLAYERS own it.. Wonder why its in their favor.

    Our members in AFSCME Local 3145, who represent blood collection workers at the Connecticut Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross, launched an unfair labor practice (ULP) strike Nov. 3, 2011.

    Local 3145 members have worked nearly three years without a contract while the employer continues its efforts to strip away fundament bargaining rights and break the law.

    Local 3145 members gained legal vindication when a federal judge ruled Aug. 29 that the CT Blood Services Region broke the law by engaging in unfair labor practices that led to the 2010 strike.

    The Red Cross unfortunately has refused to obey the law and reach a fair agreement, forcing our members to go out on strike. In fact, the company made even more regressive proposals during last-ditch negotiations on Nov. 2.

    “I’m not out here just to protect my benefits. I’m here with my family for respect,” said Local 3145′s Tashonda Thompson, a Red Cross phlebotomist. “We’re the front line of the Red Cross. Without us, there’s no blood for them to make their profits from.”
