Hi. I live in Memphis, and would like to help, but am not in a position to financially support anything other than my wife and children. It certainly doesn’t detract from my desire to be a part of the solution, not the problem. Which is why I’m writing you now. Where is the list of proposed solutions? How would I submit my own solutions?

One of the biggest criticisms I have heard about all of this, is that it’s a great show, but there is no end game. How do we propose to enforce these solutions? We know they won’t simply hand over the keys, so how do we force them to listen, or change years of destructive policy? It seems we would need to go through hundreds of congressional policy’s to root out the destructive and unfair loopholes. How do we actually remove them? Are we just going to send our congressmen and women angry emails, or do we have a more substantial plan?

The only option I have heard thus far is to vote in better politicians. That is a great long term plan, but I’m not sure this movement has the stamina to last the years that will take. We KNOW this isn’t a simple presidential election away from a solution, so how and what seem to be important dilemmas that MANY people need/want to know.

I look forward to any kind of response, and maybe some suggestions of what I can do locally to help this movement through these birth pangs. Thank you in advance.

So, if you take all their profit, who is going to make the product? You expect the product to be produced and distributed for free? Let’s turn this around, and say you were producing something that people needed or wanted. Would you give it away for free, or would you try to make some profit? If you hate the companies who provide these products so much, just quit buying them and make them yourself!

          • George Michailow

Brian, There are more powerful motives than profit. Think Empathy, social responsibility. Jonas Salk ended polio by giving away, not patenting the Vaccine. The Cures for Disease War, Poverty, Homelessness exist but suppressed because the profit is too great in the prolonged treatments.(Think Health Insurance, high priced drugs, farm subsidies not to plant, arms sales, foreclosures ) . Think about it. Everyone does better when Every One does better. Profit before people is unsustainable.

            Occupy Christmas
            Here’s the dealio, folks:

My family will not be shopping on Black Friday. Furthermore, we’ll be occupying Christmas with a moratorium on Christmas shopping.

There will be no presents for anyone except the grandchildren who are age six and under (because the little ones wouldn’t understand the lack of Christmas presents for a good cause). The rest of us, on the other hand, will be spending time together and donating the money we would normally spend on gifts to Occupy Denver instead. For Thanksgiving, we will be delivering boxes of Grabber MegaWarmers to our local Occupy groups to help keep them warm. Food will be delivered to the downtown camp.

Furthermore, the kids’ toys will be purchased at a local small business toy shop rather than at big box stores. Our payment will include a note that reads as follows:

“We are shopping at this establishment in support of the #OccupyWallStreet movement. We are the 99%.”

          • Ted Brown

I’m with you!! We need a world wide strike (UNION)to not buy anything and not go anywhere, no work no truck drivers shut it down that is a true show of power!!! For the time it took God to make this world 7 days n 7 night. Lets Go

      • Bo Orr

Keep on keepin on brother. I am so proud of all the brave folks that are showwing up at rallies around the country. I have been screaming out for this kind of action for years. anow that it’s here I have to pinch myself to remind that it is real. The inconveniences that those of might have to endure to support this movement is minicule compared to the long drawn out pain that we will all suffer if we don’t turn things around now. You can bet you have my support now and forever.

      • Pilamye

OccupyPalmBeachCounty has begun in downtown West Palm Beach. Come to assemply meetings at 7 pm each evening at our camp at Banyan and Flaagler Dr. (one block north of Clematis)

      • commonsense

Kenyon, did you connect with the actual Occupy group? I seem to have inadvertently signed into a “facebook” sponsored forum for miscellaneous meetup groups.

    • ED Gamboa

The only way to change is to go back to the regulatory times to when banks didn’t have that kind of leverage and that can be done by Congress, however they will move slowly. The President must now step up and take control of the nation and he can now in case of emergency and it’s a fucking emergency.

        • dogday

Right — you can’t count on anyone in Washington, period. When the Movement is real big and effective, then Obama or someone will get on board, but not until. “STop the War” in the 60′s didn’t attract a single politician until virtually every other American was in the streets. Then came McCarthy and Kennedy etc.

          • Christopher

I like Obama. But don’t for a second think we aren’t aware of the fact that he sponsored this movement from day one. OWS is an official response to the Tea Party.

          • George Michailow

“There go my people. I must find out where they are going so I can lead them.” –Alexandre Auguste Ledru-Rollin, French politician (1807-1874).

      • Brian Newman

The companies play by the rules set up by the politicians. The real problem is the politicians who set up doomed programs, and insist the businesses play by the new rules. That’s why the bankers stopped acting like bankers for 5 years. The govt forced them to!

    • Marcelo

      Greetings,

My name is Marcelo, I am a Brazilian lawyer with little knowledge of the American laws and legislative system. Even so, I am aware that direct democracy is not unknown to Americans: in several states the citizens are allowed to propose laws (ie., California, South Dakota). Therefore, here comes a question and a suggestion: are the American citizens allowed to propose laws with national amplitude, directly to the United States Congress? If that is possible, proposing a law project pressing for market regulation might be an efficient tool for the American people that are unhappy with the present US situation.
Here in Brazil, our politicians are not so brave to disregard laws directly proposed by the population (of course we are talking of a percentage of the people, it doesn´t requires the entire population to sign it), for obvious political reasons; on the other hand, they are masters in ignoring mass protests. From experience we´ve learned that although protesting gives us a remarkable sense of unity, it has little or no effect on the disposition of our congressmen to legislate.
In conclusion, I would like to offer my most sincere sympathy for all Americans; I hope you guys find your way out of this crisis and back to the prosperity that made your country an example for most of the world. Good luck to you all.

      • Public Takeover

The States can submit laws to Congress for consideration–individual states. Individual people can’t.

        • Trey Melton

When you say the states can submit laws, do you mean a representative of the state? Do you know which representative or if there is more than one?

          • Trey Melton

Sweet jesus….Thanks, I know how to use Google. What I was asking pertained to the information above. I HAVE contacted my congress person, with expected results. I was wondering if the person who said only states can submit new laws and bills for vote. A “state” is ambiguous when you add a verb. A state could mow my lawn? Just trying to get more info to what I do best, from where I am. Looks like I’ll just have to learn legal jargon and figure it out. Thanks for , well, ya, just thanks.

          • Linda

I wondered about this issue a long time ago and found out that Mike Gravel, a “passionate advocate of direct democracy and the National Initiative” (according to Wikipedia), has been promoting this idea for a very long while. I can’t say I’ve researched it further but if you’re interested, you can visit his website http://vote.org/ and check him and his proposal out for yourself. I also think, having lived in CA where this type of lawmaking is part of the political process, there has to be a kind of simplicity to the process which does not tax the voters’ ability to really understand where the law being proposed comes from, in other words, who funded the proposed initiative and what their purpose truly is. I guess that would be one of the first initiatives to be passed: complete transparency, simplicity of language, and limits to funding and who funds. That’s a lot to get started I think but well worth it.

          • Linda

This is a good thing. I don’t know much about it but what I just read on the website, like, if anything will really come of a petition filed here but it can’t hurt anyway. I wanted to reply to Trey but there was no “reply” button after your post, but in any case, go to the website and see. There is an active petition that has about 800 or so signatures and needs 25,000 that would ask the president to propose an amendment stating that “persons” are natural, you know, flesh and blood, not corporations. It couldn’t hurt to support some petitions there or start new ones. The Occupy movement could certainly garner the support necessary if it were put forward with the input of the general assembly. My opinion. I’m just here at my house thinking. I’m not on the front lines.

          • Linda

Oh yes. You asked about electronic signatures. You can sign the petition right there on the site and I read somewhere that you can also circulate petitions. I didn’t get into all the details.

          • About Time

Please do sign the related petitions at the White House petition website. In particular, please support the petition for an amendment to overturn the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision. That decision, which ruled that corporations were “persons” with free speech protections, has greatly increased the ability of corporations to control our public life by financing campaigns in secret. Overturning that decision is KEY to getting the people back in charge. Please include this issue in your messaging.

          • Trey Melton

Thanks for the help Linda! I am in Memphis, so I don’t have much voice either. I would like to see if we can get some solutions, and other things together so we can submit multiple petitions. One for term limits, another for criminalizing lobbyists, maybe even one to decriminalize Marijuana. We’ll have to see on the MJ, it clearly isn’t a top tier concern. We need to stop the exploitation of workers pensions, and well, each item on the list, really.

I’m going to push this(these) petition(‘s) as hard as I can. I suggest anyone else who cannot make it to the general assembly do the same. Just because we aren’t there, doesn’t mean we don’t have a voice. THANKS OWS!!!

          • Linda

In regard to Citizens United, I saw Representative Louise Slaughter on Keith Olbermann. She and 19 other congresspersons are seeking some type of oversight of Justice Clarence Thomas’ apparent conflict of interest in this case due to his wife’s position lobbying for this case. She also said that there is a law of retroactive recusal that could be utilized to nullify his vote in this case if the wrongdoing were confirmed. If that should happen, it would reverse the decision as it was a 5/4 vote. Maybe some sort of petition to pursue this line would be useful.

      • Marty Leon

again, thanks for your input. At the present time, there is no dirrect measure for introducing legislation at a national level. As you’ve mentioned only a handful of states.

Its been brought up at the square, the proposal of a 27th amendment to US constitution calling for citizen ballot iniatives.

Like Marcelo, I am fom another country (Netherlands, Utrecht). The problem I see here is that with winter coming, the Occupy Utrecht (and other) are confronted with homeless people, drunks, junkies and other people who are victims of the current society (or their own lack of possibilities and willingness of course).

This means people avoid the Occupy place, and councils have the right to stop the movement because of “public disturbance/drunkenness/drugs use/etc”.

I am willing to donate a virtual environment on the web where Occupy members and other are welcome to discuss subjects, share information and ideas, and even invite politicians and other live! For positive and especially constructive discussions, and preferably decisions!

My company can offer a 3D MMO world with free entry for around 5,000 people at the same time, in which we can start “Occupy via the Web”, or in other words, get together when needed or wanted, live! Normal 2D web content is useable in our 3D worlds.

I am willing to keep this running as long as Occupy is needed, or as long as the banks will give me credit ;p

I tried an email to ‘general@occupy.org’ but can understand they are swamped with e-mails like their reply says. So if someone from the org is willing to contact me, we are willing to offer a lot. Not tomorrow, but today.

        The reason?
Many, but mostly the fact that things are not divided like they should imho.

        Best,
        Emmanuel

Then we will all be exactly the same and life will be perfect. Sounds like you want to get paid, just for existing. What happens when everyone decides to take without giving. Eventually, there’s nothing left to take. Go produce something that people want, and you can decide how to spend your profits. Keep them or give them away—it’s your choice. But no one should force you to do either. Why do you insist on forcing others to make that choice instead of focusing on creating your own oppy?

        • A child of God

Brian, or is it Scrooge? People like you seek to kill-off the world due to your evil selfishness. You take away jobs due to your greed for profits above humanity. Most people need and want jobs. The poor will always be among us and the rest of us need to help them not hate them. I am old, ill, and may not live to see it, but I know you will get what you deserve for your hatefullness.

    • Greg Paciga

      Good morning.
First let me congratulate you for the great work everyone is doing. I’m so proud to be an American. Keep up the good work.

I’ve recently had several people purchase sleeping bags and some other cold weather gear from my Ebay store and have had me send it to an OWS address there in New York. Specifically:

      Occupy Wall Street
      118A Fulton St
      #205
      NY, NY

I just heard on the news that there was a great need for back packs. I believe in the cause and would like to help. I have an army surplus business and have a large quantity of packs in a various sizes and would like to make those available to our friends “at ground zero”.

Now as much as I’d love to donate them, as a one man operation who just recently got his small business off the ground. I can offer pack systems at close to my cost.
I can offer back packs starting at $11 each. And going on up to $31 for Huge packs designed for extensive use by our troops and are virtually indestructible.

If you think I can help let me know. Or pass this onto the person responsible for supplying the folks who need help our there in N.Y. I can give more specifics if you think I can be of assistance.

      Thanks

I sent 3 boxes on saturday . One tent, 1 with a Backpack full of socks and 1 box with Sweatshirts, Sweatpants, Hoodies etc and a Book by Charles Eisenstein “The Ascent of Humanity.” it’s also available free online at http://www.ascentofhumanity.com
He predicted this in 2008 and has some great ideas worth sharing on money and the evolution of humanity to a beter world. Thanks #OWS for creating the spark that will be the raging fire that will bring the meaningful change. Hang in there.

          • Sherry Knepper

Thank you for donating the tent, etc. I think this is safer than donating $$$ but in this case I trust that no money will be “stolen”. I can’t send or donate anything at this time but I can give a little computer time. Wish I knew what I could do here. I think anyone who can squeeze in the time should help if there’s any way possible. As far as I know this is the largest protest in world history and if not yet, it should surely become so.

      • Brian Newman

Don’t these people believe in paying for anything by themselves, or is life just one big handout?

        • George Michailow

Dude, This is not the place for these gripes.. If you can’t help. Get out of the way. You are not discouraging anybody here.. just raising your blood pressure. I feel sorry for you.

        • Lucifleur

This is my first time here…and I am very thankful for the Occupy Movement! I am extremely proud of the sacrifice so many people are making on my behalf. I am part of the 99%. Now, I will be looking for ways to help contribute to this movement, in my community and beyond. As to your comment – Perhaps you could post it on politicians’, corporation lobbyists’, or billionaire bankers’ websites!!! I don’t see any of them being too shy about asking for “handouts”!

    • Irena Hollowell

I think you have very valid concerns, Trey, and that the movement is already doing a lot to respond to them. One major point I see coming from this movement is that for change to happen it need not start with (or even involve) politicians. Yes, we can do a lot to get better politicians elected and make the system less corrupt. But that need not be the main focus. We can create grassroots programs to help people who are under finiancial stress, and to meet people’s basic needs for free. For example, OWS is feeding thousands of people on the street every, from all walks of life. OWS is providing an education that I think is more necessary than what colleges provide, and isn’t charging money for it. There is so, so much being thrown away in this country every day, and it is largely because the 1% have more money than they could ever spend on things they actually need. We can change that, and politics isn’t the only way. In terms of what messages to help spread and how to go about it, start by clicking on the “groups” tab at the top of the page.

      • Brian Newman

I’m not part of the 1% but I’m busting my ass to get there.

        • George Michailow

How many people are you willing to run over on your way there? The culture of competition is unsustainable. The culture of empathy and cooperation is. Are you sure this is a good forum for you to share these views? Do you expect to convert anyone else here to your backward primitive thinking? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYLLFpNn4lM

          • KyDave

Exactly right, George. Brian should come stay in the park and wait for some backward-thinking corporate big wig to see the light and sign over his pay check to help support Brian.

That’s how I’m planning on making a differnce: I’ve called in sick for the next three weeks, so I can participate in the protests. That should be long enough for somebody to notice my plight, empathize with my need for support, and work out the direct deposit detals out with my cedit union.

What time does the delivery van from Liberatos pizza come? I hope somebody paid for a soda: I’m parched!

Second, make sure you have no credit card debt or other debt. I know you may owe on a car or house, but keeping your money out of a big corporation’s hands really helps.

Think before you buy. Shop at the local stores. I try and buy local and pay a little more. Especially when it comes to food.

Ask a local theater or cinema to host a movie night where you show something like Inside Job, King Corn, Food Fight or a number of different documentaries pointing up the financial industry’s take over.

I know these may seem like things that aren’t as important as a petition, but believe me I have been in the vegetarian movement for over 30 years. It has gone from having to buy tofu from Chinese restaurants, the only provider, to multi-million dollar businesses.

Voting with your dollars, going to local commissioner meetings does more than you think.

    • Laurie Hester

It may seem like the democratic solution will take a long time, but look how quickly the Tea Party movement did so much damage! It is a mistake to say the Democrats are the same as the Republicans. Write your Democratic representative, or support any Democrat up for election or re-election. They will get the message FAST. It takes only the threat of replacing them with a progressive to make them move in that direction, as the republicans did at the threat of being replaced by a Tea Party candidate. All the Democrats need is visible support for progressive actions. Make more noise than the Tea Party and you will get results.

      • Brian Newman

Tea Partiers are very hard workers, and their demands make sense. OWS’ demands involve getting something for nothing. Tea Partiers had fantastic success because they make good sense. Actually, the Tea Partiers have some of the same complaints as OWS, but the solutions are way different. Open your mind to Conservative/Libertarian ideas, and come see the light.

        • Trey Melton

You have been drinking from the conservative well too long. How do you know all of them are hard working, and none of the OWSP’s ARE hard working? Sounds like unfettered bias to me. For you to say they made sense is not only an opinion, but again, a heavily biased one. For you to be unable to make sense of what OWS wants, while perpetuating the myth of tea party sanity invalidates your opinion, IMHO. OWS DOES NOT WANT HANDOUTS. We want jobs, and justice. The tea party took our country hostage to achieve their goals. You mean that’s how it is supposed to be done?

          • KyDave

“OWS DOES NOT WANT HANDOUTS. We want jobs, and justice.”

Talking about the “Endgame” i saw this little printed clip. Sounds like a pretty good idea for a start?

      • Nathaniel Faro Mellor

Warren Buffett, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best
        quotes about the debt ceiling:

“I could end the deficit in 5 minutes,” he told CNBC. “You just pass a law
that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all
sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election. The 26th
amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months
& 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in
1971…before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc. Of the 27 amendments to
the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the
        land..all because of public pressure.

Warren Buffet is asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of
twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do
        likewise.
In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the
message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

        *Congressional Reform Act of 2011*

        1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman collects a salary while in office
and receives no pay when they are out of office.

        2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All
funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security
system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system,
and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for
        any other purpose.

        3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans
        do.

        4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay
will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

        5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the
same health care system as the American people.

        6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American
        people.

        7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective
        1/1/12.
The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen
made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor,
not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours
should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take
three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message. Maybe it is
        time.

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!!!!! If you agree with the above, pass it on.
If not, just delete. You are one of my 20. Please keep it going.

        • SallyinChicago

After we send it to our friendsters, how do we get it to Congress or the people who matter and can make change.
I can send it but then what?

    • SallyinChicago

I agree with Trey. I am donating sending money and goods, but the OWS have to come to some goal, some action after a while or people like me will give up and stop giving.

There is no point trying to focus on everything, but if we can focus on the things that:
      1) Favours DECENT employment
      2) Reduce inequities by spreading profit from top to bottom
      3) Doesn’t ruin the US economy
Then we can maybe transform the economy. I like to call these measures wellbeingism measures, or the art of building a “meeting human needs” economy.
Step 1: Attack basic accounting principles so that employees are no longer considered mere expenses in companies. We want employees to become assets, so that they will be financially valued. It all starts there!

    • Kerry Melton

Hi Trey, I am wondering the same thing. One thing I try to do os purchase as many products I can from local growers, at farmers markets on Etsy, and other small businesses and farms as I can. My motivation has been to support stay at home moms, local farmers, small businesses, etc. I also try to incourage as mamy people as possible to do the same. I know its not much, but if a large enough amount of people do it, it may make a small difference.

    • Dr Robert A Wells

Herewith some of my ideas ideas to counter the “establishment” argument that the occupy movements do not have any clear aims or methods.

The ideas reject the greed of the 1%, and make positve proposals for lobbying, and action.

Accepting some fair variation in remuneration and reward gets rid of the “commie” label, but limiting the range meets the aims of the vast majority who are appalled by the obscene rewards of the few.

Hope it is helpful. The HOW section, is a starting point which after Negating Excess, develops further .

Kind Regards from Dr Robert A Wells. UK.

“HUMANE WORLD” and “THE 10 : 1 PRINCIPLE”

FAIR AND ACHIEVABLE PRINCIPLES AND METHODS TO CHALLENGE

      THE ESTABLISMENT CLAIMS THAT

“THE MASSES HAVE NO AIMS OR PROPOSALS”

HUMANE – Help Underprivileged, Motivate Achievement, Negate Excess

      Help Underprivileged

The First Principal of our Humane World, is a universal quest to assist those with poor health, education, nutrition, shelter and resources, globally, in communities, and within the family.
However fraudulent beneficiaries must be exposed, and shamed.

      Motivate Achievement,

Accepting that without the highest achievers, in health, education, science, agriculture, entertainment, public service and business, there is no future, and that they should be motivated and rewarded, not only by higher remuneration, but even greater recognition,

      Negate Excess

Accepting, that through greed and/or fraud, a tiny minority of the global population, claims an obscene excess of reward, resources and privileges, is not only grossly unfair, but increasingly de-motivates, alienates and angers the remainder of society, towards the demise of us all.

WORLD = Within Our Resources, Life Develops

      Within Our Resources,

which are finite, we have a duty to nurture, protect, and preserve our environment, more fairly sharing the benefits amongst all members, within a sustainable population.

      Life Develops

      – towards our ultimate aim of a fairer standard of living for us all. More spending power for the masses = more growth and more tax collection.

      10 : 1 Principle

Achieving “a HUMANE WORLD within a generation”.

Communism, Marxism (theoretically no variation), and Unrestrained Capitalism ( in practice – unlimited variation) have ALL failed, and must be discarded.
Communism fails to reward achievement, whilst the Mega rich of Unrestrained Capitalism, hoard wealth and avoid tax, by misuse of favourable regimes.

Humane World accepts, but sets reasonable, global limits in range of payment.

The ultimate spread is debateable, but if we consider an ideal of 10 : 1, then those who achieve through, endeavour, hard work, study, skill, and creativeness, will still progress, be motivated, whilst also earning true recognition and respect.

Why does anyone deserve or need to eat more than 10 times more food, live in 10 times more homes, or waste over 10 times the resources than any another. ?

10:1 is ambitious, and although ultimately fair, cannot be achieved rapidly.

      HOW ?

By starting with say 100 : 1 variation, whilst is still excessive, we begin to reduce from 500 – 2000:1 remuneration range (as much as 5 – 20 million USD p.a), of CEOs, bankers, financiers, mega stars etc to a maximum of 1 million USD p.a.

(Based on the most basic salary of 10.000 USD pa. x 100 = 1 million.)

The majority must Lobby/Force G20, UN, IMF and governments to agree to global pay limits, and tax levels, this is the only way to remove at a stroke the greedy argument “well, we will move from this country to that country”.

Then we only vote for parties which support global agreements to progress through 90:1, 70 :1 , 50,:1 & so on, as far as the majority consider fair.

Maintaining such agreed limits in times of austerity or prosperity, will promote a global willingness to cooperate in sharing the pains or the gains, as we would then truly ——- “ALL be in it together”.

Later replacement of Income Tax, by GLOBAL taxes in consumption, property/financial transactions, and death, will increase efficiency of collection.

Efficient collection of tax is more help for underprivileged and less tax for all.

Higher Achievers, (whilst still earning more), should also enjoy even greater recognition by status, and awards,( at no cost to society), and by less greed and more philanthropic practice, they will earn the highest respect of all.

      Hey Trey!

You are not alone. Many people do not have extra funds or time to donate but there is something we can all do to show our support. Print off a sign from your computer or for those of you who don’t have one, hand write it and say:
      ATTENTION UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT
WE STAND UNITED WITH THE OCCUPY WALL STREET PROTESTERS
YOUR LUXURIOUS LIFESTYLE AT THE EXPENSE OF YOUR CONSTITUENTS IS OVER

When the Officials, The Bankers, and everyone else that is benefiting from the destruction of the American People sees this sign in every house and every car window, they’ll realize it’s not long, before it is going to be their turn to be thrown out on the street. So far, this has been a peaceful demonstration…except for the police brutality at the bequest of the soon to be cowering Officials. The unfortunate part is, the Officials History. They never act in a positive manner until someone gets hurt. When you unfairly take away hard working peoples livelihoods, homes, food, money, etc, they have nothing left to loose…and that makes for a dangerous situation the Officials won’t be able to insulate themselves from. E-mail, facebook and twitter the sign idea to support the Occupy Wall Street Protesters.

I have been observing and participating in Hartford CT events for the last several weeks. I’m disappointed with the apparent lack of organization and direction although I strongly suspect there are both of these in great depth; they are just not being widely and simply communicated. I applaud those who want to avoid making demands because by their very nature, making demands admits limitations and this protest should not admit limitations, yet. There will be time for those but the burgeoning list of changes is not complete yet. So let the volcano continue to erupt but with structure.
To those who insist on an end game think about this: the current end game of our economy is very clear, n’est pas? So to begin to form an end game statement of this protest, consider the attributes of the current economy which we’d like to change, reverse, correct, make more equitable, generate more direct representation etc, etc. Then let this thinking generate the desired end game for the protest.
Finally, the protest has not really considered the power it has: I suggest we spend some time acknowledging the dimensions of this power and then allow that analysis to form an Economic Change Team to collect suggestions. The greatest power we have is that the government, the banks, the WalMarts, etc, etc, won’t be able to continue operating without our financial contributions. Why not start by refusing to pay any income tax? On a mass scale, there aren’t enough legal prosecutors to sue everyone and we’d get Washington’s attention.

    • Deena

The first move politically would be to END CORPORATE PERSONHOOD. It’s the way corps own the political powers and get away w/what they do. Next, not only audit the fed, audit congress and all public offices. Waste and corruption amount to more than we can even imagine or admit we allow.

      • Zach

I agree! In other words, instead of treating corporations like Kings, begin treating them as equals.

    • kimdavis0204

I agree and more is needed:
I support the movement and believe the significant occupation was a need to get noticed at the start. However, I believe that now is the time to be more strategic by occupying only certain places at certain times, similar to flash gatherings. To help define one voice, (1) I believe that a few point people be identified for each current occupied location to place people on a contact list to receive notification as to where the next occupy area will need their participation. This contact list should contain email and phone numbers because not all occupiers have money to afford computers. (2) Information should be provided to each person regarding where to find the next scheduled occupy meet up. (3) Each person should be asked to register to vote – not for a particular candidate; but just sign up and be committed to vote (4) Each person should list the change that they are voicing in an online location (5) Someone should be assigned to place the list of demands in an orderly fashion online to begin defining OWS Voice. One movement strategically engaged for particular activity at a specific place and time with a coherent message.

I would love to donate but I only have a Bank of America card. I know it would be hypocritical of you to except a donation made on this card.

      • Zach

There is nothing hypocritical about using your OWN money.
But to relieve your guilt, do this: Create a group of 1000 people who do business with this bank, tell this bank you will continue to do business with them if they agree to give you a group discount for staying with them…and promise them that if they can’t give you this new group rate, you and your 999 friends will withdraw all your funds together at a set time and reward the bank that does agree to a group discount with 1000 satisfied customers!
Power to the people! Occupy style with as bark AND BITE. Let’s put a ring in the bulls nose!!

    • Zach

The most powerful way this movement can effect change is to coordinate where money is spent and invested. By this I mean…for example: Straight Talk wireless charges a month 45 dollars. But they ask you to buy their year plan for 540 dollars. In other words…the same rate. If you buy the year plan…you are giving them the same amount ahead of time, for a service you won’t benefit from till eleven months into the future. For 12 months, they will earn interest on your purchase! If enough people who use this corporations service got together, and told Straight Talk, here is our deal: give us a lower cost for buying a year ahead! And we will reward you. $540 times 100 people is over half a million dollars of business. But it only works if people work in tandem! Unless Occupy uses this strategy, this movement will fizzle eventually. Wall Street is banking on this.
      What do you think?

    • Carrie A. Griggs

This might be a little more effective….just have every human being not work for 2 hours……watch the planet stop no feeding the beast of greed, gotta have man to run the machine….just a thought.

    • richard hoffman

This is in reply to Trey Melton’s response on “How to Help”.

I agree that the way to help is to elect better people. We should elect those, whose primary interest is in helping those in need, the unemployed, the poor, and the middle class, who are struggling because much of their potential income has been transferred to the 1%. To accomplish this, this group needs to become aware of the need to vote for candidates whose purpose is to help them. Too many of this group are mistakenly voting for Republicans against their interests. An educational program is sorely needed.

One way to ferret out the candidates whose interest is to make life better for this group rather than do the bidding of the 1%, is to recommend to voters that they only vote for those who have pledged not to accept campaign contributions from corporations. Such candidates would then have to depend on the support of this group in order to be elected and would not be beholden to the corporations, as is the situation in the present Congress. Their campaign contributions would be obtained from individuals belonging to the 99%, instead.

If this promotion was instituted in time for the next election, perhaps some immediate progress would result.

    • Lance Night

Hello, found a simple modern way to get us a true democracy, not this lie. When our constitution was written, there were no paid by the rich, treason lobbyists. This solution should be Occupy Wall Streets main demand. We cannot change anything unless the people are in control??

Go to below and ignore radio information (unless into that) and read all
the facts. You must read entire page to not miss any of the joys. This is not a advertisement.

      http://www.nucow.com/JYC.htm

It is a simple idea, that would again give America, to the people, like Greece 3,000 years ago, the last true democracy.

Can you imagine, how nice this country would be, with the people in control?

      PASS IT ON………….

If we all wake up, it is now possible to get true democracy and stop this rip-off,
before they get control of the internet, like everything else.

    • Rick

Is it possible to go after the powers through the patent control, I mean most of the super money was derived through government grants or dod contracts that brought about the intelectual rights that they use to make trillions off of pharmacuticals to electronics, these were paid for by Taxes, do we not realy hold the rights to those patents, the people of the country? I am not well learned but I feel that most patent rights belong to the ones who employed the research in the first place… And all the research done after the fact that was done with the proffits they wrongly witheld from the people… just my feel on the issue,,,I wonder if this would be worth getting in front of the Supreme courts and firing back from this angle?

    Idea for increased/improved visibility

I have an idea that might increase the visibility of the movement: Get the message out that sympathizers unable or unwilling to join the urban protests should erect tents in front of their residences to signify solidarity with the movement’s basic message: corporate greed (and government collusion) is noticed, not appreciated, and must change. This, if you can get it to happen, would at least produce new images for the press, who will likely soon grow tired (along with their readerships and audiences) of photos and video of tent cities and the usual likely suspects holding signs, however clever they may be.

Imagine news crews driving down a suburban street in Anytown, USA, filming and photographing lawn after lawn, street after street, neighborhood after neighborhood dotted with illuminated tents. I think that would be a compelling image, one that a broader and larger base of people could identify with and one, possibly, that less-confrontational people would be willing to be part of. It would be quiet (powerful in its contrast to the noisy urban protests), dignified (like most Americans), and unmistakable. The message would be a loud one to the ones we’re trying to reach and possibly resonate more because the messengers would ideally be greater in number, be spread over a larger area, and appear less radical (i.e., more sympathetic) than chanting marchers on police-lined city streets.

And people wouldn’t even have to sleep in the tents if it was too cold or wet or if they just didn’t want to; they could just leave them illuminated at night so they are visible to neighbors, the press, business owners, officeholders, and the nation. People without camping gear could make and fly some kind of flag with a tent on it (with maybe a slogan on it, like “Occupiers: We’re in Tents” or something cleverer) or draw a sign and put it in a lit window (which could work also for non-homeowners).

I think this would need to happen very soon, too, before something happens with some fringy occupier at one of the encampments that brings disrepute or even shame on the whole movement.

Anyway, that’s the basic idea. I’ve thought a bit about how best to execute this plan (risks, benefits, etc.). If you’re interested, you can e-mail me back and I’ll share my ideas with you. In any event, good luck with the movement. I hope it brings about some positive change.

    • Judith (JudetheDude in chat room)

Hi–I want to put forward, again, an idea I (and apparently others before me) have/had. I would like to see each city’s occupiers pull about 6 people aside and load them down with multiple copies of “We are the 99%” signs–then take them through neighborhoods, ringing bells, giving short shpiel and asking them to put a sign in their window–as a show of solidarity—would love to see neighborhoods papered–apartment buildings, all floors etc. Pics speak even louder than words–like a “mad as hell” window scene!!!

      • hopinion

i like this idea too. i am french and we can do this in France too -99%

    • J

LOVE this idea. It is non confrontational, makes a nice statement that would get noticed in my quiet conservative neighborhood –and it puts my tent to good use.

      • Frank

Beware the neighborhood dogs and raccoons or what else, if you really like your tent. Or suspend it from a tree and leave it for the squirrels.

    • Mike Allen

Josh, I think you have an excellent idea. By giving a simple yet very symbolic way for the millions who so badly want to participate but for many reasons cannot (lucky enough to have a job, family to support, live away from urban centers, etc). How do we get the GA to consider this and get the word out? Hell if not we may have to start it on our own.

    • raychel

I love this idea and am putting my tent up now. For the first time I am sad I live on a dead end street. I am sending in supplies. I am limiting my money in an account and I am buying local. Time for survival mode. Let’s make a change. And if we all loose our jobs because we don’t need tellers, big store clerks and baggers, than we will know we are creating a change and what comes next must be better than this. Buy local and with a survival mode mentality.

      • dogday

Me, too. I just don’t have a tent. So, I will make the flag (cardboard) and fly it in front of the house. The flag will have a tent on it, a sunrise behind and the words “Occupy America!”

    • Joan

Great idea – please get more exposure of it – may i copy and place on my FB page?

      • Nicole

Passing this along to my sister who lives in small town Nebraska. Occupy Everywhere!

    • Sara Porter

I have no website. It looks to me like the best way for us to support is to find a local MoveOn group, or Occupy group, or environmental group, or any group that is looking for a way to end the Washington DC mess (which could take years) and then when a National Day of Demonstrations is planned get out there with everyone you can find to attend. Occupy is a wonderful movement. There is so MUCH wrong that eventually some brave elected official will have to realize that we want the corporations out of our government. The idea that a corporation is a living feeling breathing human being is a travesty. Laws written by lobbyists give big pharma, big oil, big agri-business etc. etc. everything they want and must be rewritten.
Sure we want capitalism and personal responsibility is what we are all about — HOWEVER we don’t deserve the predatory immoral mind set we have now.

    • Mike Allen

Okay so tomorrow I will be pitching my tent complete with light in the front yard. My neighbors who are not plugged into the movement will wonder what that nut down the street it doing now but will eventually figure it out. Everyone should post the tent idea on their Facebook, Twitter, and any other personal media site. I will communicate it to the occupy groups in Columbus, Ohio and share at OccupyOSU on
      Monday.

Uhmm… wasting electricity would only add to the profits of the electric company. Maybe we should use homemade candles instead? No, wait: that would generate excess heat/emissions. How about a circut powered by a generator hooked up to a treadmill or exercise bike? Wouldn’t that be more Green??

    • immy

beautiful idea — I love both the tents in front yards and signs at homes.

If you do it, take some nice pix and post them here there and everywhere – I bet that the idea will take off as people share your photos. And it will warm the hearts of city folk to see that support from the Front Yards of America!

    • Deeda

The illuminated tent is a great idea for a meaningful silent revolution both visible and inexpensive. Is this on facebook, etc. I will start in my neighborhood by erecting one. Let me know when.
We should gets lots involved and synchronize the action! What color tent, white?

Also, can you tell me how to get my valid gripes listed and noticed by the most people? They are: student loans that are crippling young peoples futures, the most assinine oppression in a “free society.” Young people borrow, work, study, improve, train and plan and come out of the colleges with huge debts and loans to repay soon with not many chances at jobs that can use and pay for their skills and training. You must pay!!!!!
The other oppressive issue we should deal with right a way is the “fire at will” deal that companies can use to get rid of even their best workers if and when they wish. We have got to do something about these atrocities!!

    • MantisBot

That’s a freaking AWESOME idea! I’d also suggest getting a lit tent graphic up for all supporters of the #Occupy movement for their avatars over Facebook, Twitter, etc. Heck, I may just go do that right now… it’ll be the new ribbon:D

    • Patricia

Josh, Thanks for this inspiring idea about putting up a tent to show solidarity!! Or a Cardboard Sign – either one or both will get attention. Well DONE!

    • Susie Fehrmann

This is a wonderful idea – way to show support all over the country. I would also like to see signs (like the political signs that show up everywhere this time of year) that simply say “Occupy” in amongst all the other names of people running for office.

  3. Trey Melton

Well, it seems the message is out. Now comes the action part. What is the next step? How do we accumulate ideas to fix these issues, then implement them?

      • Trey Melton

Is that an advertisement? I don’t tweet, as I am not 13. While I am glad you guys are not living in squalor, this board seems to have the feel of a dorm room orientation, moreso than a political movement. Hope that doesn’t come out wrong. I want to help, but do not have money to offer, live on a dead end street, and can only hope your laundry issues are resolved, but These are not solutions to the problem you are representing.

There seems to be less communication about the issues than I expected. This is not burning man, it’s a movement, why does it feel like someone is going to post that someones mom brought brownies and they are in the “community” room sooner than anyone is going to take this seriously and start working out the details of affecting actual change to the system that has paralyzed us for so long.

I promise I’m not a conservative in sheep’s clothing, but where is the group hammering out the issues with volunteer tax advisers and economists? Who has the history majors in a closet? We are about to be laughed out of our freedoms if nothing comes of this. It will be the 60′s all over again, and the detractors will have more ammunition to dissuade the sheeple from changing themselves, or the self serving habits which have allowed the powers to be to reign for so long unattested. The window is closing, time is short.

At first everyone was interested in what would come of this. Many were willing to offer a free pass to the disorganization. While this is certainly more organized, it seems the agenda has tapered to simply surviving. While a good strategy in life, a movement that does not make.

The attention is there. No need to hang signs, or tents. Everyone is already watching. Not that they are bad ideas to show symbolic support, but you already have a VERY strong support base hidden, quietly waiting for debate on new policy, or possibly ways to oust an entire congress based on known deception of the people. An amendment to the constitution to allow congressmen and women to be accountable and punishable by law might need to be kicked around. Where is that conversation being held?

We aren’t going to make much headway by trying to vote them out. They changed the voting game so much no one has a chance to get an honorable candidate to the plate, much less into an office. You only have to repeat that daunting task 535 more times (ending with a new president). This level of corruption does not simply go away, and the changes we need are incredibly complicated.

Please someone help me keep my hope, and maybe point me towards a group that is more involved with strategy to move the country forward, not just the movement its self. Hope no one takes that the wrong way. Thanks in advance!

        • Nicole

Have you checked out the daily calendar of events on OWS’ website?! I’m sorry, but you don’t really know what you are talking about. There are strategy sessions all day every day down at Zucotti Park. If you are in NYC, go down there, if not, start holding strategy sessions in your community. Stop waiting for someone else to lead. The time is for all of us to step up now. There are daily seminars at OWS that address how we can take our government back so it is an actual democracy again. Tonight there is a teach-in at Washington Square Park. It is your responsibility to become informed.

          • Trey Melton

Thanks Nicole, but that’s what I’m talking about. It’s IN NY. While that’s great for those who are there and able to participate, what about the rest of us, who want to do more than simply put up a tent. Or go buy a tent to put it up to signify I am part of a movement I have not had one ounce of say in as of yet. I don’t need people in NY making decisions for me ant more than I need people in Washington. It isn’t really about the people, if only the people in New York have a say.

Your dismissive tone of my concerns suggests to me that you think everything is going fine. That’s great, now tell me where we are on the list of solutions, or is this just some big outside slumber party for you, and you can’t be bothered with such nuances as the future of our country.

And for your final comment, yes it IS my responsibility to be informed. Where would I go to do that genius? I have to drive to New York to get in on the discussion. It’s your responsibility to not be a douche, can you manage?

        • whitey flagg

people are working around the clock. you should watch the general assemblies or read the minutes each day or as much as possible. that is the best way to be informed of what is happening as we speak. horizontal democracy takes a lot of time! get involved however you can!

          • Christina Countryman

I would very much like to follow the general assembly meetings, but where do I go online to find access to the minutes and the videos? Livestream does not seem to be the place to watch the general assembly after all. I just go round and round the website until I get frustrated. I appreciate any hints from the media savvy.

        • Deeda

Please cease talking like a politician and DO something. Do you not realize we have to get their attention first? It is a brilliant idea, silent and powerful, to put up tents, FIRST, to get us synchroized and ready for action. Let’s get together with our many ideas for change. The fact that we can is democracy, plain and simple.

  4. Susan F.

    IMPORTANT — PLEASE READ
The link for the laundry & shower donation form goes nowhere. Please fix as there are people trying to sign up.

    • asra

Yes, I was trying to sign up to donate my place for showers. Thanks web team for fixing this as soon as you’re able.

It is the best time to make a few plans for the future and it’s time to be happy. I’ve read this submit and if I may just I want to counsel you few interesting issues or suggestions. Perhaps you could write subsequent articles referring to this article. I desire to learn more things about it!

  6. Jo Hamilton

Are you successfully receiving packages at the address listed above? I know several people here in North Carolina that would be willing to send items. I just want to be sure it reaches you. Thanks.

  7. Andy K

First off, I want to applaud everybody participating in peaceful revolution. Its about time people start standing up and demand to get heard. I live in Norway where Im proud to say we have a quite open and transparent society. Elected officials actually represent the people, contrary to American (my social-democratic Nordic view).

Call me a communist/socialist or whatever you like. I on the other hand view myself as a humanitarian. It`s something fundamentally wrong with a system that makes the rich, richer and the poor, poorer.

To further promote your cause you have to use as many means as possible (peaceful that is). Be creative.
One idea could be to go around in apartmentbuildings and get people to hang up post-its in their windows. “occupywallstreet”, on windows on a couple of thousand households across the country would catch the eye of many, and it`s a fun way to get the message out there.

  8. Tim Withington

Hi, I’m a Paramedic and would like to get in touch with the Medical Team to see how I can help. Please get back to me if you could use me.

  9. john bassist

desperately need a wiki and 1001 sub forums in order to create reasonable and transparent organization. without it the movement is going to fade like 2003 protests for lack of being able to manage to addres the complexity of the issues.

    • Trey Melton

Agreed 100% Is there any plan for any of these things in the near future? Sounds like were getting somewhere. I like it!

  10. Sarah H

Sent food & will send more, sending money, have some clean warm coats, gloves and scarves to donate. Can you use them? What are your needs? Please list so supporters can send them. Thanks

    • Tara

      Hi Sarah,
I was asking this q last night at the Comfort Station and they said SOCKS and SHOES. Also Underwear. I would also assume towels after today’s rain. Thank you!!! Tara

      • Sarah H

Thanks. Makes sense. I’m trying to locate someone in my area who’s going to NYoccupy to give them supplies. I saw a link to a local occupy a few days ago, but can’t find it now.

    • Brian Newman

How about going out and buying your own socks and shoes—–or making them yourselves if you hate the companies that produce these products.

      • KyDave

I would like to lead an Occupy in my living room. In the next few days, I’ll have a website where ppl can send me food, money, clothes, furnature, appliances, cars, dog/cat food, and rolling papers. Let’s RESTORE THE POWER TO THE PEOPLE, people!!

  11. Daniel Smith

Is anyone working on a more systematic matching of needs with donations? It looks like there’s no way for someone donating to know if a given need as been met or not. If so, I would imagine there must be a lot of redundant donations–both for a given location and between locations. I think people would also be more likely to make a donation if they had more information–like, say, “as of [date] there is a need for xx meals, or for xx sleeping bags, in location Y.” I am not at all a techy but would imagine it wouldn’t be too hard to set up something pretty useful on the web that would help match donors from all over with all the various occupy sites. If there’s anyone out there either familiar with the needs and current system, or with the techy side of how to do this, please say hi. Thanks!

    • Brian N

Gimme Gimme Gimme! Why not put the effort for free stuff into something productive. Create your own product and sell it. I bet you wouldn’t be inclined to give it away for free after pouring your hard work, ideas, money, and time into the product

  12. Tommy

There are many misguided efforts, and it seems that the OWS movement has become a platform for just about any concern. A movement needs to focus and be very clear on what it seeks to accomplish.

First let me say that this problem is not liberal or conservative, democrat or republican but it is a common problem we all share. One key point must be stressed we are all affected by the issue at hand.

The basis of the problem is the laws that have enabled and perpetuated the problem. If you look at the fall of the exchange in 1929, its cause and the reaction by the government you will find most of the problem. In 1929 only ~10% of all businesses were public and the remainder was private. ~2% of the population were involved in trading stocks and most of the individuals we very heavily leveraged (They bought on credit).

Next the market dropped, individuals lost their ability to pay off their margin accounts and wiped out the capital overnight in the banking system, Couple that with the hysteria of the people running on the banks to get there gold out and you have a recipe for disaster.

For most they were not initially affected by the falls of the exchange in 1929 but when banks failed they felt it. Businesses lost credit to operate, accounts were wiped out and small private business failed. No fault of their own but the fault of the overzealous banks. Individuals found there savings wiped out alongside the private businesses and the world plunged into the abyss.

The reaction to this was FDR and the 1933 securities act and the 1934 securities and exchange act. What these two pieces of legislation did was strip the ability of the small private business (who did not cause the market collapse) to raise capital in a traditional form, Bonds. Direct investment was for many years the mainstay of the entrepreneur. It put the restrictions on who could invest (Qualified institutional investor) and how the investments could be sold. It stripped the ability of the individual to invest and make the high returns they became accustomed to and placed all of it into the hands of the very few 1%.

Today if you are a business owner there is a glass ceiling of about $3 million dollars where a business could potentially get debt to expand, retool, or modernize. The Wall Street and Banks prefer an Equity offering. How often do small business owners sell the majority share of the company they own under a public offering or private sale (sale to high net worth’s) to raise the capital they need. The horror stories of this arrangement are very clear. They give up control, get voted out of the company and the new share holders shut them down move the product manufacture to China to maximize the return to the High Net Worth investor (new owner).

The laws perpetuate the problem. Now remove the Glass-Steagall Act and it becomes a high net worth orgy.

Focus, access the laws, and fix the system that perpetuates the behavior.

    • Trey Melton

Great info. So if we can combine Marcelo’s idea to get enough people to start a petition to submit a movement to congress for vote, we can put (among other things) the re-institution of the Glass-Steagall Act. Now we’re getting somewhere.

Does anyone have a lawyer handy to investigate Marcelo’s claim? We need to know ALL of the ins and out of the law on this. If it passes, lets get a few petitions started to get some of these ideas into law by circumventing congress all together. We may find we do not need congress.

This is all predicated on the notion we get some solid ideas together and work the kinks out of them.

      We’re getting there!

    • SallyinChicago

I agree. I think over time the general public who support OWS will grow weary unless there is some direction and focus.

  13. Ursula Harris

I as of now am still unemployed because my job was outsourced to china , because of this I can not donate any money : ( but I am VERY good at Photoshop and anything graphic related. I would like to offer you this any any other related skills you need to help take back our country from the kidnappers of democracy . I live in LA California and I am the 99%

  14. Eric Lee

My name is Eric Lee and I am a recent NYU graduate. Like many folks in my age, I wasn’t able to land a full-time job. Frustrated with the economy and the indecision of our leaders, I decided to strike out on my own and create a social media platform that will educate the youth, encourage them to speak up, and demand changes so that people at Washington stop screwing up our future.

The name of our website is Weforpresident and is still being made. In the meantime, we have our coming soon page Weforpresident.com, and twitter.com/weforpresident up already (We will have our facebook.com/weforpresident up shortly)

I’m writing to you because I like to donate a podium, where protesters at Liberty Park can make speeches and rally up their causes. We like to document these speeches and interview protesters spread them online so that more young people in my age join the movement.

We are planning a trip to Liberty Park this weekend and the following week. I just wanted to give you guys a heads up before we go there. Also, can anyone direct me to the person I should speak to when we are there?

Many companies have been destroyed, JOBS LOST BY THE TENS OF THOUSANDS. Everyone in DC knows this is going on and YET have done nothing to PROTECT the people…instead we just get more blah blah blah. This has been going on since 2001, as far as I go back in this fight,, Hundreds of investors have stood up and fought to protect this country. We all knew we had to do something. The greatest thing to happen was the INTERNET. It helped us connect and to contact with each other at light speed. So now it’s the MASSES who need to finish this fight. It is you who need to protect yourself and your family. Stand up and save this country from these THUGS.

Please continue to go thru some of the basic information on this subject. You will see that the head of the SEC said that this was a serious crime that crippled many small and medium-sized companies. He promised to protect us from this fraud in 2008. Soon after, the SEC said that the fraud was contributing to the collapse of the financial system. Words aside, though, it did NOTHING to stop it. Three years later, in 2011, NOT ONE person has been prosecuted, and the destructive fraud continues as usual.

This story below is From the Economist Magazine Dated Jun 2nd 2011.
It tells the story on HOW HUGE this CRIME IS TODAY

      America’s dodgy financial plumbing
      Too big a fail count
The sheer number of unsettled trades is rattling regulators
Jun 2nd 2011 | NEW YORK | from the print edition

CLEARING and settlement are supposed to ensure that share, bond and derivative deals are completed safely and on time. These back-office processes are arcane, unglamorous and too often taken for granted—until things go wrong, when their importance becomes painfully apparent. The financial crisis of 2007-09 and the “flash crash” of American stock markets in May 2010 revealed numerous faults in the plumbing. Efforts are under way to mend these, but regulators have been slow to attend to some worrying new blockages arising from today’s high-frequency and tightly coupled markets.

A report on economic warfare that it commissioned in 2009 gave warning that settlement flaws could be used by terrorists to destabilise financial systems.

A Very nice story in Rolling Stone magazine. Yes, that’s right Rolling Stone.
The Wall Street Journal just can’t seem to speak about it.

      Wall Street’s Naked Swindle

I know this is a lot to cover for the average person, but THIS is the
crime that has destroyed everything you have worked for, and the
CROOKS continue to do it and the people in DC do nothing.
Its time to end it once and for all

The Real ending of this fraud and the BEST way to punish these thugs is for the DOJ to follow the SELL tickets right to OUR MONEY. The Paper Trail is plain and simple. When they sold these FAKE shares they had to write a sell ticket and the MONEY had to go somewhere.. FOLLOW THE SELL TICKETS to the MONEY , Force them to BUY BACK all the FAKE SHARES they sold us as the market crashed. Watch the price of all the companies that have Counterfeit shares rise and go thru the roof as they try and by them back. Please read about how short sellers lost BILLIONS when it went against them in
the price of Volkswagen. That is their greatest FEAR Enforce the laws and our stock market as a whole will skyrocket, wiping out the criminals who have deliberately impoverished America. And then let’s not forget to THROW THEIR ASS IN JAIL FOR LIFE

EVEN GOLDMAN SACHS ON Thursday Jun 10, 2010

TORONTO (Reuters) – Goldman Sachs Group Inc President Gary Cohn said on Thursday industry agrees that naked short selling should be banned.
“I don’t think anyone in the industry has any problems with banning naked short (sales),” said Cohn, who is addressing a securities regulation conference here.
“The concept of naked short sale is not a great concept. In fact, from a regulatory standpoint the more regulatory certainty we get on naked short sales the easier it is for us to force these down on our clients.”

On a side note the headquarters of the Settlement system (DTCC 55 Water ST) is just blocks away from the Occupy Wall St protest and Likes their name kept out of the picture at all cost.. Read what they had to say in 2005 and where we are today In English they said Public companies are all crying because our stocks went down,, Iam sure some companies were bad,, But the Data shows FRAUD and a lot of it and the DTCC helped cover it up. They should be held responsible and let the investing public know YEARS ago about the FAILS in the system and how BIG IT IS. Instead of hiding the truth.

AN INTERVIEW WITH Mr THOMPSON DTCC

@dtcc: If the volume in the Stock Borrow program is so small, why are these companies suggesting it is a major issue?
Thompson: Frankly, we believe that the allegations are attempting to purposely mislead those who are not familiar with this program. A number of small OTCBB and so-called “pink sheet” companies have contended that this practice is driving down the price of their shares and driving them out of business.
According to their own 10K and 10Q reports financial auditor’s disclosure statements, many of these firms have admitted that “factors raise substantial doubt about the company’s ability to continue as a going concern.” They have had little or no revenue, according to their financial reports, and substantial losses, for periods of seven or eight years. One of these companies has been cited for failing to file financial statements since 2001. Another has been cited by the SEC for press releases that misled investors on expanding business contracts that didn’t exist. They will do anything they can do that takes people’s attention off that kind of record, especially if they can convince a law firm to take the case on a contingency basis, which is what has happened.

      http://www.dtcc.com/news/newsletters/dtcc/2005/mar/naked_short_selling.php

Now that you know this is a MESS and still goes on This JUST was released on 10/26/2011 Funny the Head of SEC said dont worry we are on it,,

UBS fined for CRIMES a real joke,, paid $12M how much did they steal? how much damage? and the Finally question WHO DID THEY DO IT FOR? Must be some BIG Client to take a hit for that, HOWBOUT SOME JAIL TIME for someone

      http://www.forbes.com/sites/halahtouryalai/2011/10/26/ubs-fined-12-million-for-yet-another-trading-incident/

But here is one of the many outcomes of Naked Short selling,, In REAL TIME like Yesterday

General Dynamics to buy Force Protection

      Mon Nov 7, 2011 1:57pm EST
      FRPT.O) for $360

Now the fun Part,,, in 2008 stock was $30, then someone started Naked short selling stock all the way down to below $3, All Fraud by the way..

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5put3e8MQo

Now in 2011 this company was the target of a takeover by (GD) for $5.60 cents a share.. A far cry from the mid $20′s on a company that PROTECTS our troops. The only question is who NAKED SHORTED this stock
could it have ties to (GD) so they would have to pay a lower price? Or was it a group of OFFSHORE HEDGE FUNDS trying to stop this company from building more trucks so more of our troops get killed?

I get it by the lack of response i get from all Media, and Its a disgrace that this goes on and still does, Hey My kids are alive, go tell the parents of a soldier they were killed because this company could not build a truck to protect them because their stock went down and could not raise money. Oh well I feel better I DID my part.

Think about the cost to buy this company if the stock was $20 it would be at least a $1.4 BILLION DEAL,, not $360 Million,, Iam sure long term shareholders and insiders are thrilled they worked for zero

      IF THE 99% ONLY KNEW,

I can show you more,, but 1st learn this one . How about a list of quick questions

      1) Who can Naked Short? Can anyone do it? And since it is illegal who is doing it? Maybe Aliens
      2) If it is illegal why hasn’t anyone gone to JAIL
      3) Wall St has the most powerful Banks and Brokers in the World and yet we cant settle a trade on time? WHY? My guess they don’t want to
      4) Why does a public company have to be at the mercy of the Stock settlement system? Does the DTC(name of stock settlement system) help a public company in anyway? (NO) They are there to settle trades and get a fee for it. Yet when they don’t settle trades on time they still get paid and the stock of these companies get destroyed for NO reason at all. Stock settlement is T+3 for all US investors who has the free pass?
      5) My favorite question is for the Brokerage firms, When we do a trade we pay a commission for the trade. Part of that commission is make sure the trade is settled. If the trade is not settled does the Brokerage firm count that commission as earned? The never really earned it yet. So my take on it is that all the Financials of these Firms are wrong and should be adjusted to remove that income they did not earn. Remember everyone gets paid a Bonus at these firms they never really earned since the numbers are WRONG. What accounting firm do they use and who there signs off on that?
      6) My Final question is does anyone have any idea who owns the DTC? Take a look and see. A quick Hint,,, Not the Govt BUT all the WALL ST PLAYERS own it.. Wonder why its in their favor.

SO IN CONCLUSION EVERYONE KNOWS, BUT NOTHING GETS DONE. MR PRESIDENT STOP THE FRAUD AND PROTECT THE PEOPLE NOW. SETTLE THE TRADES
      The 99% want JUSTICE NOW

Hi NYC General Assembly. Have been in contact with a few local representatives of OWS in Binghamton, NY. Trying to get in touch with someone in charge of financing and/or donations. Our firm is among the 99% that want to see real change in this country, particularly with concern to providing honest products/services and offering real opportunities to hard-working Americans. Our small business would like to work together with OWS/General-Assembly on fundraising. Please let us know who we can contact directly about this! My parents go to a conference every year for a mutual fund company (Baron Funds) that they invest with. This guy that founded this firm, Ron Baron, is a billionaire who bought a $100 million property in the Hamptons a few years ago. He has this conference every year at Lincoln Center and my mom tells me that every year the entertainment gets more elaborate. One years he will have Seinfeld perform and the next he will have Elton John. And that is just the headliners,,,,there are lesser known perfromers (who are still well known names) that perform at lunch! She think that he spends $5 million on this conference. This year it is on 11/4 at Lincoln Center and CNBC always broadcasts live from there…..seems like a good place to protest to me.

    • Brian N

Go out and try to punish the person that lavishes a great experience on those who were wise enough to invest their money in his company? Makes no sense. Why do you begrudge those who are successful and want to enjoy their success with others? Who are you to decide how anyone else spends their money? What if you wanted to throw a big party for your friends, and protestors came and said it wasn’t fair that you got to have such a great party when they don’t have any food. How does shutting down the party help a homeless and hungry person? It doesn’t!

      • Trey Melton

What money should they invest? The money they have to work two minimum wage jobs to pour into their family? Surely there’s plenty left at the end of the month to drop the rest into their 401k and investment portfolio. You elitists are so clueless. You probably had a job that paid well before the crash, right?

You probably didn’t see your wages cut, I’m guessing. Any of your benefits decreased? That’s where it starts. They trim a little off the top with paid vacation becoming just vacation, no pay. Sick days start shrinking, then they are just unpaid days off. Stock options and investments back into the company stay around, since that helps increase the company’s worth.

We used to have one income homes. Don’t you find it odd that there are so many two income homes, yet 47% of the population doesn’t make enough to be taxed? What money are they supposed to “invest”? How is it begrudging those who are extremely “well off”, by wanting a chance to be “well off” yourself? People just want to be able to pay their bills without working themselves to death, is that too much to ask?

Not sure how you are unable to see the gap between 300% pay increase over 40 years to 40% increase as wrong or unfair. Perhaps you should pull your head out of the sand and look around you. This isn’t happening on your tv, or monitor. Open your door, it’s happening out there. Look for yourself.

        • Joe Douglas

Good explanation, Trey. I keep wondering why people are so quick to lay off their ‘team members’ instead of cutting back on executive pay. The boom/bust cycle of our current economic system cannot go on. There has to be a way to spread the wealth so that everyone can make a living.

  18. jean-vincent sénac

Hi. I want to order for you some camping tea kettles because you said a while ago that you need some. where to send them to and to whom? Fulton street? any name required? I have found a store nearby so it should be quick. I can’t bring them to you by myself, I’m in Paris right now :-)

  19. chuck

We can all contribute by letting our so called leaders know the party is over. the gig is up. In a polite and professional way. pressure baby, pressure. Stay informed, do not support a broken imperialist system. The more you find out what is going on the madder you will be.

  20. Douglas

I’m behind this movement 100%. 2 things: 1. Always Denounce violence. Don’t ever accept a violent method. The violence in Rome is counterproductive. 2. Don’t try to destroy Obama. He’s not as Progressive as we would like. Hell if anyone is. But if he is destroyed and we wind up with one of those damned Republicans, we are all screwed. This Country will not survive it.

    • SherryinPA

You took the words right out of my mouth, Douglas. Thank you for the post.

    • Dorothy

I am very disturbed by this comment.I thought the idea of this movement was that neither party (actually it is only one party) is acceptable. – that our form of government as it operates must go and be replaced by a real democracy. Was planning to come to NYC this weekend but if this is the attitude I find there I will have to rethink my support. A crime is a crime no matter who commits it or whether there is an “R” or a “D” next to your name. Obama should be in jail for mass murder, torture, rendition, assassination…just to name a few. He is no different than his predecessors, maybe worse because he pretends to be something else. He is a neocon not a progressive and anyone who supports him is devoid of principles and humanity. And I saw moveon mentioned above…they are just trying to co-opt the movement as some other pretend “liberal” groups are – they are total Democratic insiders – making people think they are raising funds for the Occupy Movement while using them to fund Obama’s campaign. During the Bush years it became obvious that moveon was not a liberal group when they outright refused to help in the impeache Bush movement. Pay attention to people like Chris Hedges, Glenn Greenwald, Col. Ann Wright. Things are so bad that little tweaks aren’t going to fix things…we need massive change and that is not going to come by propping up the corrupt bastards that got us into this mess.

Hi there – I tried to go to the shower donation form, but the link was broken. Do you still need them? I am in Midtown for work next week and would love to offer up my hotel room’s shower :)

    • Brian N

I’m sure your hotel will love you giving away their amenities for free, and having a parade of smelly people traipsing through the lobby. How would you like it if you ran a hotel, and your guests invited the public to come in and use the facilities? I don’t think you’d appreciate that at all.

  22. Mollie

I just saw the 99% Declaration and the call for a National General Assembly next year.

What I’m concerned about is that it may be getting too late. It may already be too late. Although I know organizing may take some time, waiting until July of next year, tnen waiting until possibly 2014 to field independent candidates may just come after too much damage has been done. ]

Not that I have all the answers, but I humbly think the time frame needs moving up.

God Bless and keep up the good work.

    • fuelNYC

we do not need a leader. we are a leaderless movement. what we need to do is grow our numbers to the point that we can demand our leaders to do what they are supposed to be doing.

      • Sherman

But what are they supposed to be doing? I know. Not robbing us. But I have been researching this for a hour and still haven’t found any demands from ows?

    Hi OWS

Could you put me in touch (email is fine or phone) with someone who could personally be responsible to pick up a package at the UPS location from Primal Foods? I wrote to them to ask for a donation of some of their vegan “meatless” jerky strips to pass out to the pubic (or “occupiers” as it were.) They called me back and said they would be happy to send a donation of some of their product but would like to know if there is a vegan or vegetarian person who would like to be responsible to pass them out.. because such person would likely have product knowledge and be able to answer questions about the product or the meatless diet in general.

I wrote to Primal Foods after reading that part of OWS’ manifesto is to shed light on the deceptive food supply system that enslaves animals and keeps the public in the dark about the environmental and health degradation inherent in meat agribusiness (the consumption of who’s products is also the primary cause of most epidemic disease in our country, causing the healthcare and exacerbating the housing crisis by medical/financial crippling) . I was happy to receive a personal call from the company saying that they would be glad to support the occupation if I could supply a contact for them.

Thanks for forwarding this to an interested vegan or vegetarian! I can be contacted at my name above, no spaces (at) gmail (will not type for spam fishers.) .com

Also a HUGE Thanks to everyone involved with OWS for your sacrifice of time, comfort, safety, etc in efforts to liberate the rest of us, the environment and therefore the entire planet and all living beings on it from the long held oppression of corporate greed and deception.

I ordered my first lawn sign—-”I’m not part of the 1%, but I’m busting my ass to get there.”

  24. robert Frisch

    Bully for the protesters!
Here’s an idea—-distribute bumper stickers that read: “WE ARE THE 99%!” Perhaps some good samaritan will anti up the cost of printing and distributing them. Politicians all travel by car and won’t miss seeing them time and time again.

The idea of pitching a tent in the yard is good if you have a tent or yard and can afford a tent.

    • Brian N

I just ordered bumper stickers: “Not part of the 1%, but I’m busting my ass to get there.”
And I didn’t ask someone to give them to me for free. I made them myself, and now get to sell them! What a fantastic country we live in! Now, go get a job

  25. Suena

My wife and I made a donation online. My wife also wants to order pizza for them. But the person in Papa John’S Pizza was not sure where to deliver ….. anywhere or just give it to anyone on the street?? Do they deliver for real???

  26. John Sweden

Corporations, banks, multi-nationals, money lenders are terrified that you’ll stop buying their crap. So, stop buying their crap! Whether stuff or PR-speak, just because you’re fed it doesn’t mean you have to swallow it. yes, you CAN think for yourself.

    • Brian N

No one here wants to buy anything. They want it all given to them for free. Corporations aren’t worried about these freeloaders.

      • Joe Douglas

That’s where you’re wrong again, Brian. There are millions of people who are not at OWS who agree with the protest and will buy or not, accordingly. Freeloaders? You must be referring to the billionaires, millionaires and corporations that pay no taxes, right?

  27. Prof. Donald F. Megnin, PhD

The avenue to change is slow in coming. What you are doing, however, is shaking the tree upon which far too many have resided to their exclusive benefit. The process of involving all ranks of society in addressing common needs, common interests and common problems ultimately depends upon whom they pick to represent themselves in the legal institutions (Congress, Legislatures, Courts, and local community organizations) created to address these same issues. The problem has been and still is, we have allowed political campaigns to be too long, too costly, and too much beholden to the source of money needed by candidates to attempt to interest the voting public in who they are, where they stand on the issues, and whether or not they are simply serving the interests of those who have given the most to wage their political effort to win an election!

It does not matter who holds the positions of President, Senator, Congressman, etc., as long as they do what is right. Full Employment Full Pay and Full Benefits assured by the national treasury (ref: legitimate precedent Roosevelt 1941 – ending “The Great Depression”) is the first step to resortation of the natural viability of the society, its requisite universal economy, peace, goodwill and cooperation among the people, legitimate egalitarian universally representative democratic government and all human rights.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FY3T5u81ytg

    Hello OWS,

I just tried to access the laundry and shower form to volunteer my house, but it doesn’t work—I know you all really need to clean yrselves up from time to time, so you should make the form work so that people who want to help in this way can sign up on line.

    Tangible Change – Positive Action

We have incredible power to make positive tangible change. One of the criticisms by people not involved in our movement are the large numbers of people just sitting around with signs or occupying themselves with hacky sack or other distractions. We can circumvent these criticisms, draw huge press coverage and make a serious impact on our world by engaging in public service outreach projects in our occupy cities. 500 people donating 4 hours per day to a public service project amounts to 2,000 man hours per day, 10,000 hours per week…40,000 man hours per month.

Imagine the impact on New York City Housing Authority Project Low Income Properties and their residents when 500 volunteers show up with paint and supplies to remove graffiti, repaint and repair their residences and surrounding areas. The same applies to inner city schools, parks and neighborhoods. What a practical, positive impact we can have on thousands of deserving lives in the cities we occupy.

What better way to show unselfish caring than by investing in those who do not have the resources or time to help themselves. We can create “riots” of compassion and found a revolution of renovation. Improving peoples’ lives and environment.

    • Peter Burgess

Lyle … In my view the purpose of economic activity is to improve the state of the community and quality of life. From this perspective your idea is brilliant … and it could evolve beyond this. I love this … Peter

    • Brian N

Great idea. Won’t work, though, due to the lack of work ethic found in these freeloaders. Sitting there, waiting to be given something for free–what a great example these complainers are setting. Go out and run for office so you can make the changes you want. Don’t just sit there!

  31. Peter Seidel

If I could find a good convincing attractive flyer on your website explaining why so many of us are upset, I would have copies made and distribute it at shopping centers, etc. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time nor talent to make really good convincing ones. Talking about it with each other, is not enough. Information has to get out to those folks who think that OCCUPY is just a nuisance. There is good information out there such as on the Mother Jones website:

    http://motherjones.com/politics/2011/02/income-inequality-in-america-chart-graph

It would be wonderful if some people could create attractive convincing fliers using such information. I believe that if people came across such a flyer on your website that could be downloaded and copied that there would be a lot of people running around handing it out and putting it under windshield wipers.

  32. Tenn Ring

How much do you pay people to ‘occupy’ these places? I might be interested!

    • Bert Moonbeam

R U Serious? You must be joking, but in case you really don’t know…nobody is getting paid to ocuppy anything Sweetheart. This is not a corporate funded, fake grass roots movement like the Tea Bag Fools, who have been deceived into voting against their own interests. Those are mearly stupid people who have been convinced through race-baiting, anti-gay bigotry, fundamental religious views to vote “against government”, which means pro-corporation. The occupy movement is the real deal, Tenn. It is a true, honest grass roots movement of the people by the people and for the people. It is “organic”. It is a true populist movement that recognizes that greed and lust for power has corupted our government and taken over our society. The corporations (banks etc.) want U.S. citizens to be so in debt, so desperate for a job, that they will work for next to nothing. They are breaking unions, making college outrageously expensive, trying to profitize Social Security and Medicare, destroying the Post Office all to achieve these ends. Occupiers are fighting back. None of them are getting paid.

      • Steven

Damn straight! The 1% use race, religion, creed and any and all of our difference to divide us. Even some non-1%ers enjoy watching people fight and squabble. Their worst fear would be if we would all get together, cast aside out differences and not fight.

“I can hire one-half of the working class to kill the other half” – Jay Gould

      • Brian N

Yeah—the tea party is so racist that their number one pick is a true black man. All you got is name calling. Right now, the Tea Partiers are back at work, busy with life. When the next election comes around, they will be back at it, making this country a much better place to live in. MEanwhile, you will all still stink.

  33. Robert Phelps

Well said Bert. But what you didn’t mention, that I haven’t heard getting much attention, is how Fox News, Rush Lardbutt and their radio loudmouth cohorts have brainwashed so many people with their disinformation and distorted facts. When is someone going to Occupy Fox News. It’s the 1%er’s primary propaganda machine.

    • Brian N

Yeah—Fox reports BOTH views of a political issue. That’s not fair. CNN has it right—Liberal Commentators with no other viewpoints. Same with ABC, NBC, and CBS. You should listen to Rush Limbaugh once in a while, and open your mind to the other side’s viewpoints. You’ll see that the true propagandists are the mainstream media outlets that never tell the full story. They only present one side, and then tell everyone that the other side is nothing but mean and evil. Where is some journalistic integrity? BTW—I’m not one of the 1%, but I’m busting my ass every day to get there. Much better goal than OWS’s

  34. Raven

    Hello!

I’ve been doing signs for Salem Oregon and thought you might like to use some of my designs.

Where can I send you my portfolio of OWS-Salem posters?

  35. Peter Burgess

Thank you folks for your great ideas to help and promote the Occupy Movement. Obviously money helps but other actions and contributing effort is very meaningful, and for many more practical.

We all know something is very wrong with the global profit economy, and I would suggest one of the issues is that money profit and GDP growth are the only measures of performance anyone in finance, economics or anything else has ever been taught. Listen to Bloomberg News, CNBC and the rest and you will see the problem. We all know that quality of life is not just about money, it is much deeper than that. It has many dimensions, most of which are ignored in conventional performance metrics.

I have been agonizing over this issue for a very long time and have attempted to put together something that will be better. I call it TrueValueMetrics (TVM) … meaningful metrics for a smart society. The concept is to expand the GAAP accounting framework to include value as well as money. and to make a place in society the key reporting entity, not the organization. In this structure and organization is ‘in’ society not ‘on top of’ society.

Value is everything that goes into quality of life and the sustainability of society and the planet. It is subjective and it is difficult to quantify … but there are techniques for this that are relatively simple.

A key accounting concept is the relationship between a balance sheet and the profit for a period. In TVM there is the same concept. As I see it the ‘purpose’ of all economic activity is to sustain and improve quality of life. In TVM State of Quality of Life is like a balance sheet at any point in time for a place. Progress is ‘valueadd’ which is like profit, but using a value construct and not just money. As in money accounting where the change is balance sheet is also profit, the change in state of quality of life is also ‘valueadd’. Performance is how much resources are consumed in order to generate ‘valueadd’.

When we use TVM value thinking when looking at Goldman Sachs we can see profit, but are we able to see valueadd. I certainly have difficulty finding it.

When we look at an organization like Doctors without Borders I cannot find much profit, but I can easily find valueadd,

When I look at a place with a good school, I cannot find profit, but I can find valueadd,

A community that is safe, and a community that is respectful and has a nice small police force has a better state than a community that has violence, confrontation and needs a huge aggressive police force.

You get the idea. There is a lot more.

If we can put value in play as a metric of performance …. the next step is to start a process that makes the capitalist market economy evolve into a new value market economy #NuVME. There are a lot of philanthropic funds already in existence but they are not using particularly helpful metrics and there is no effective ‘market’ that give them support in the way the profit economy gets support.

Note I am not anti-capitalist … but cannot see how a capitalist market economy is ever going to get to grips with the huge problem of global poverty and the massive backlog in essential infrastructure and under-educated and under-healthed people on our planet. Technology is good enough to handle all the production we need, but we have no mechanism to get critical economic activities financed.

These ideas have been evolving for a very long time … I think they are pretty sound, but I am sure better minds than mine will be able to (1) improve the concepts and (2) make them practical on top of 2011 technology.

My computering started way before Jobs and Gates came on the scene … and while I have tried to keep up it is now a race that I acknowledge I am losing. The concepts remain valid … the right platform might make the ideas fly.

A report on economic warfare that it commissioned in 2009 gave warning that settlement flaws could be used by terrorists to destabilise financial systems.

crime that has destroyed everything you have worked for, and the
CROOKS continue to do it and the people in DC do nothing.

Just a thought Oc not protester, Occupy New Years?.. I’m not a protester but it would be a countrywide event with one common message and image for all america to view the beauty of liberation of the country, as a whole. What a new years resolution that would be. A major poll for everyone to also to post their vote to support their resolution or not. Let the media see there are more than just a few protesters out there wanting equality in the nation to advance us in the future.

    • Sherman

I like this. Instead of some fancy star party advertised on tv. We would see that all of america is fed up and ready to take it back.

    • Brian N

That would mean giving up something special to the freeloaders/OWS’ers. They won’t give up their big night of partying in order to present a much more civilized impression of themselves. New Years will be another oppy to show off their true colors. Lazy, drunk, and stupid

      • Trey Melton

You chastise someone in a post above for name calling, yet call OWS people “freeloaders” and “Lazy, drunk, and stupid”. You ARE aware of the racism that is prevalent in the extremist conservative circles, yes? Cain is a tool, being used by the party. Fight black with black, nothing more. They are ALL good puppets, no matter the party, hence OWS. You are defending FOX news too, which is odd, since I’m not sure they made it to the list of complaints you somehow cannot find. That makes sense though. You probably cannot find any solutions either, despite them being tossed around like toys on just this board. You need to wake up. You’re asleep at the wheel again.

I was reading the first part of this thread about submitting petitions directly to Washington or by using State representatives. I know that the corporations have been using ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council) for years to do the same thing: http://just-gov.com/politics-politicians-elections/ . Is there a comparable group (clearing house) for the “rest of us”? I will try to do some more search.

Now for my real question. Can I start a new Group for “Video Journals”. What I mean by this is… I have been creating web sites, for some time now, that tries to draw important documentaries and video interviews together, under specific topics, so they can be found easily, and can be used as a learning tool.

I learned a lot about Wall Street, the Financial Crisis and what could have been done differently to help the public as appose to Big Corporations (Banks).

I would love to have a group to attach learning materials to. I have since created some Facebook pages, WordPress.com, and blogger.com sites:

If we cannot stem the tide of corruption in this country how the heck do we expect other countries to do the same?

  39. joel kaye

Here is my story….as to why we are in this Boat full of Water…!!!!.

WAKE UP AMERICA…. WE MUST…..WAKE UP OR THE FUTURE WILL NOT BE VERY ROSY THIS CENTURY…..!!!!!!

Or else we will loose everything we built up after WWII….

Are we really afraid of being protectionists….or should we STOP IMPORTS….or slow it down a lot so our decimated industries can get back in the game and compete against Asia and other foreign countries……..

After 45 years of offering Exports to Asia it is no wonder we have no jobs at home in America……plus our richest companies now are Importers but do not have jobs for Americans at home…as we have finally hit the Wall…finally…I am not surprised as everything now is going up in price…it is called inflation for sure….that will be the final blow to America….

How about picketing all the US Malls who carry 95% of Imports like in my 2 industries….Manufacturers who are hanging on still and who are still in business but have been decimated or many others have gone out of business for the last 45 years because they could not compete with Foreign countries or American Importers either………..so “America” …. and at any store that sells Imports…Picket them…they will eventually get the message and sell American products eventually …….and say in your picket signs that WE WILL NOT BUY IMPORTS ANYMORE…and…SELL ONLY MADE IN THE USA PRODUCTS….those IMPORTS benefits all the Special Interest Folks who eliminated our Manufacturing bases over the last 45 years…with the help of our Government and with campaign financing which they offered to legislators to pass just the right bills for them in exchange……..I have seen it happen with my own eyes….IMPORTS are our long lost jobs mostly transferred in Asia…..picketing with signs will raise the ears of those Buyers who put Imports in our Retail Stores and who sell them willingly to naive consumers……consumers who have zero ideas that they are eliminating American Jobs….so…..!!!!!!

Also wondering why we have a 2% of rich folks who have as much money as the rest of the 98%…IMPORTS are full of benefits and profits…that is why our Retailers don’t buy American made products….as there less profits in buying or selling American products for sure….this issue Imports has contributed to our demise economically for a very long time….

Many of us are already Liberals….but Liberals & Conservatives and folks in the middle have all created this economic problem over the last 45 years……..and it has not helped in this century or the last one to have 2 parties that can’t work together in Washington or in our 50 States………as they don’t have common senses on how to fix America….how many times more am I going to vote out legislators and replace them with another while the problems get worse after I voted…….!!!!!

What do we have to be and do to overcome our present situation….???? START OVER…!!!
Here is one of my ideas to fix our economy first and get our jobs back…….STOP IMPORTS…!!!…and stop trading Boeing Airplanes for Sweat shirts with China……it won’t work well for us to Trade this stupid way……..Imports are Imports that have eliminated our jobs sources at home….!!!!

And is becoming protectionist necessary…..!!! YES

And can we overcome the world order that we impose on many countries…!!! YES if we don’t get involved unless someone attacks us….

    And so on….and on…..and on…..!!!!

So… Stop Imports and slow down Asia or they will control all of our best markets….and Asia will have the jobs for their People and we won’t….it’s that simple.

    To whom it may concern:

I read up on the Occupy Wall Street Movement and realize that organizations and movements this large require some form of funding and wanted to make your organization aware of the Ghostrade.com Cause Vault, that allows people to raise funds for free. See video to create cause: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YBNiM6bEaM&feature=related

PROCESS IS 6 EASY STEPS: Each Major City Could Create a Recycled Tech Fund (NY, LA, SF, DC..)

1.) Register for free on Ghostrade.com and create a free “Cause Vault”
2.) Send out the Cause Vault ID Link (example of ID sent to your supporters to click on: GTNYWALLST01) and have the supporting community create an account and upload technology to be donated to supporting the Occupy Wall Street Cause
3.) Roll-up and aggregate the total collective technology value
4.) Sell the value of the aggregate tech value registered under the cause (example: Occupy New Your Protest Cause Group)
5.) Recyclers schedule regional routes and pick-ups to be melted down for Aluminum, Copper, Silver, Gold
6.) Check sent to cause based on percentage of value collected and melted down

“OccupyWallSt.org. Technology has made it easier than ever before for the people to stay in close contact and assist one another in achieving a collective goal. Our aim is to make these tools available so our users–the true organizers of this event–can make an occupation of Wall St. successful.” (Occupywallsteet.org, Who we are)

I am available to talk to leaders in each area in regards to how the model would work, as well as offer up my service for free to get the groups up and going, I can be reached at 480 204 0418.

PITCH: “We have developed an online market place for technology that facilitates the efficient reuse, resale, recycle and reward for technology that has been retired by one party, and easily made available online to the next party that can benefit from remaining value.
Our market research shows that there is a need and strong 2 year trend towards a market that captures what we have termed “Ghos” value of technology; the term signifies that technology can and should have a “second-life” given its innate value and the natural elements that create it (Aluminum, Copper, Silver, Gold—The Ghos!)

    Leaked email from investment bankers

This email has been forwarded around several investment banks. I received it from an investment banker who, himself, found the email appalling. I have left out the specific names of the people in the chain. I think it truly showcases some of the warped mindsets that drive Wall Street, particularly the part about “only” making 85K a year, and believing that theirs is the only job that requires long hours. Please let me know if it is of any help to your campaign.

‘We are Wall Street. It’s our job to make money. Whether it’s a commodity, stock, bond, or some hypothetical piece of fake paper, it doesn’t matter. We would trade baseball cards if it were profitable. I didn’t hear America complaining when the market was roaring to 14,000 and everyone’s 401k doubled every 3 years. Just like gambling, it’s not a problem until you lose. I’ve never heard of anyone going to Gamblers Anonymous because they won too much in Vegas.
Well now the market crapped out, and even though it has come back somewhat, the government and the average Joes are still looking for a scapegoat. God knows there has to be one for everything. Well, here we are.
Go ahead and continue to take us down, but you’re only going to hurt yourselves. What’s going to happen when we can’t find jobs on the Street anymore? Guess what: We’re going to take yours. We get up at 5am & work till 10pm or later. We’re used to not getting up to pee when we have a position. We don’t take an hour or more for a lunch break. We don’t demand a union. We don’t retire at 50 with a pension. We eat what we kill, and when the only thing left to eat is on your dinner plates, we’ll eat that.
For years teachers and other unionized labor have had us fooled. We were too busy working to notice. Do you really think that we are incapable of teaching 3rd graders and doing landscaping? We’re going to take your cushy jobs with tenure and 4 months off a year and whine just like you that we are so-o-o-o underpaid for building the youth of America. Say goodbye to your overtime and double time and a half. I’ll be hitting grounders to the high school baseball team for $5k extra a summer, thank you very much.
So now that we’re going to be making $85k a year without upside, Joe Mainstreet is going to have his revenge, right? Wrong! Guess what: we’re going to stop buying the new 80k car, we aren’t going to leave the 35 percent tip at our business dinners anymore. No more free rides on our backs. We’re going to landscape our own back yards, wash our cars with a garden hose in our driveways. Our money was your money. You spent it. When our money dries up, so does yours.
The difference is, you lived off of it, we rejoiced in it. The Obama administration and the Democratic National Committee might get their way and knock us off the top of the pyramid, but it’s really going to hurt like hell for them when our fat asses land directly on the middle class of America and knock them to the bottom.
We aren’t dinosaurs. We are smarter and more vicious than that, and we are going to survive. The question is, now that Obama and his administration are making Joe Mainstreet our food supply…will he? and will they?’

    • JamesD

Their job is to “make money”. Not “do something useful, and get paid for it” — just “make money.” The word for that is “parasite.”

Watch Matt Taibbi, who wrote the story, explain the fraud:
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqZUbe9KIMs&feature=related

Help, someone wants to get a biodiesel generator; can you or you and friends carry it? Is it easy to find fuel? Hope so. Can you gang generators to fill a high load need? (ask electrician). Why is this the only open contact site on nycga.net? Why did comments cut off after three important ones? Important to save comments since you may find solutions you haven’t thought of yet. Very important to sort comments and develop stuff for people leaving as well as coming so they can take what they have contributed to home with them. By being more open, you allow expertise from outside to learn from each other as well as you. So I leave a comment and it disappears; is this really new and improved or just a bunch of nonprofit managers and social workers taking over from the homeless again? I hope not, but their past track record of failure speaks volumes. Already 27,000 for a WIFI? Should be able to get costs down. Finally Whatever, over and out. aboxofrain9@gmail.com

  45. Lyle Courtsal

PS poor folks can’t afford computers so open comment section very important. Z magazine runs a site where a person can come in off internet and access and leave information without signing in. Understand that time is a concern; that’s why people save, save, save so they can share it later with others and learn from experience. May want to reconcile with occupywallst.org in order to facilitate cost saving expertise process. Crow goes better with nutritional yeast, cayenne pepper, seaweed, add your own, don’t I know. Reagan kinda force fed us that donated stuff. Liked the paper food stamps better; didn’t go down bottomless black holes on internet. Love ya, Lyle Hey Charlotte sorry I can’t make the party; we had one here in seattle 1999. hempfests 16 years and running.
PS Canadian supreme court just made safe needle drug injection sites legal; oh yeah, that’s right they can smoke pot legally up there. Gee 1,000,000 people out of prison, what a concept.

  46. Key Typer

We would like to help out by sending a generator, but what exactly is the plan for keeping them? Can the NYPD just seize private property and not return it? Or did they give you a place and time to reclaim the ones they took? Would it help to put people’s addresses on them (far away ones) so that if they seize stuff and have to return it to “rightful” owners it will cost them $$ to ship? (Thus making them not want to do it at all?) Or is there a way to designate the stuff as medically necessary for warmth? (A friendly doc could help there.) What do folks with orgs. like “doctors w/o borders” do in hostile areas?

  47. Key Typer

Also, I was reading somewhere that some of the pizza people don’t like to deliver w/o a signature for a called in order. Easy fix is to sign the stupid receipt to say “Telephone Order” or “Website Order” so they don’t have to worry about fraudulent charge backs. Can’t believe they don’t know that. But I guess the CC companies love to hide things from folks, even the merchants.

  48. Denise

    Hi Guys
I cannot deliver these but I ordered four 0 degree sleeping bags to get to you by Monday, so hang in there and thank you!

If there is anyway to order large quantity hot beverages for the people outside please post it on the food links!

Someone sent me this idea for a congressional reform act. If someone could/would get a petition started and get 25000 names and submit it to the white house – who knows – it might actually get put in action. It would certainly make a big difference in the way things are done and make politicians more mindful of who they are supposed to be representing, i.e., the 99% as well as the other 1%.

    Congressional Reform Act of 2011

    1. No Tenure / No Pension.
A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

    2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

    3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

    4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

    5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

    6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

    7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this
contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

  51. Laurie Hester

We will not get anywhere without political action. Get congress members to commit to this plan:

Ten step program to take back our country:

    1. Take back the congress (our job) for Democrats.
    2. End/fix the filibuster in the Senate. (May need to get rid of Reid as leader)
    3. Impeach Clarence Thomas (he is corrupt and lied to Congress about his sexual harassment).
    4. Reverse Citizens vs. United.
    5. Pass amendment to prevent all corporate money from politics.
    6. Reinstate Glass/Steagall.
    7. Break up too big to fail banks.
    8. Prosecute Wall St., complete with perp walk for Goldman Sachs execs and billion (with a B) dollar fines.
    9. Use money from Wall Street fines to re-finance/erase student debt and give grants to future students.
    10. Pass the Jobs Bill.

    • Brian N

1.) Democrats held full power from 2008-2010. We can’t take anymore of their spending spree!
2.) Clarence Thomas? No corruption whatsoever in his history. Did he lie? Maybe. Did Anita Hill? Maybe You sure as hell don’t know for sure.
3.) The jobs bill was already passed and paid for. It created a total of 420 jobs, and it cost us only $800B. Part II, which you want passed, will continue the waste.

      • Trey Melton

more partisan games, eh, Brian? Bush era congress spent 1.2 trillion in bailouts. Obama era congress spent 700 Billion. The score is still Democrats 0, Republicans 0, American people -800.

You defend Clarence Thomas, as though it matters to you. Is it that hard to believe an appointed official can be corrupt? Let’s not be naive.

The jobs bill, in theory should produce employment opportunity’s. Just like Solyndra, which has become the talking point poster child for poor investments, sometimes things don’t work out like they should. Of the $500 million Solyndra got, that was only .5% of the money allotted to companies for R&D into new technology’s. Of the jobs bill money, what went to creating NEW jobs VS keeping existing jobs is unclear. Transparency is required. You probably think that’s a bad idea too.

  52. Gregory Dean Lemke

    Dear Friends

My name is Gregory Dean Lemke and I want to let you know I support your movement and protest. Please do take the time to review my post on Facebook.com under the name of Gregory Dean Lemke and learn what really happening to America. Please do follow my post to the end and review all the issues. This will give you a better understanding of what I am trying to do to help bring reform and to educate the public on the crisis we all face today and what may come form it it we as a nation don’t fail to act and act fast to bring real change and reform in policy affecting is all that is the 99% of us.

Please don’t be concerned about the fact I am a Republican because I have also supported Reform issues in the past.

Here is the advice I want to give you about what I believe you need to do to start to resolve the crisis in America regarding your concerns and issues.

    1. Continue the protest in numbers and create a clear message among the people.
    2. Start to support Candidates for elected office at all levels of elected office as soon as possible.
    3. Look at what happened on Wall street and what create the crisis we have today. You can learn about the history regarding the issues and why we had a crisis in 2008 from my post on facebook.com under the name of Gregory Dean Lemke.
    4. Your protest needs to create a P.A.C. to have any say with the elected and that mean you must elect officer and File as a P.A.C. to create a lobby, without this your movement will not have real input on policy issues in Washington or with your elected.

    Reform advocate !

    Dear Mr. Lemke,

Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns about the need for reform of the country’s financial system and improved regulation of financial markets. I appreciate hearing from you on this important matter, and I sincerely regret the delayed response.

The recent crisis in our housing and financial markets has shaken the confidence of the American people. I recognize the tremendous burden that Washington families and businesses have faced in recent months and I remained concerned about the lack of transparency and oversight in U.S. financial markets. Main Street continues to pay the price for Wall Street’s risky business. We cannot allow Wall Street’s shenanigans to take down our economy again.

Like you, I am concerned about the stability of our country’s financial markets and believe that regulatory reform is necessary to create a stable foundation for economic growth and prosperity. We are still suffering the negative effects of the financial crises that was brought on by risky behavior on Wall Street and abetted by lax regulation, particularly in the $600 trillion unregulated derivatives market. Washingtonians are still experiencing high unemployment, families are losing their homes to foreclosure, and small businesses cannot access all the credit they need to grow. In order to avoid a similar crisis in the future, we need strong regulatory reform.

That is why I was proud to support the final passage of the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010. With the passage of this historic financial regulatory reform legislation we will, for the first time, require oversight and transparency in the dark over-the-counter derivatives markets that did so much to damage the U.S. Economy. We will also have, for the first time, a single agency with responsibility for consumer protection in the financial sector: the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

I will continue to work for fiscally responsible policy – including a return to the Glass- Steagall separation of commercial and investment banking – to rein in Wall Street and put an end to the concept of “too-big-to-fail.” Bringing transparency to government and to the financial markets by fighting for smart, effective regulation and oversight would help avert a similar catastrophe like this from happening again.

Thank you again for contacting me to share your thoughts on this matter. You may also be interested in signing up for periodic updates for Washington State residents. OWS, I am trying to order pizza online from Liberatos, but it is so doggone hard! Anyway, here’s support….keep up the good work, but listen to others. You need to focus and take your protests to Washington, or the State capitals like the Wisconsin people did. You need petitions to remove Congressmen and State legislators. You need to register to vote. If you register in record numbers that will scare the bejeezus out of Congress!

There are manuy suggestions for furtheribng this great movement, which, though growing, seems unable to get support of our political leaders, the only ones who will change the system.
Suggestion: NO TAXES till the very wealthy and the corporations pay their fair share.
We no longer have representation but do have taxation.

There will of course be repercussions. But enough people refusing to pay till things change will catch
the attention of the media and those in charge.

    Hello,

I have a link to an important video that I came across. Perhaps you seen it or maybe not. I am not asleep like the rest of the world. Its not only Wall Street, it’s the big banks that control this monopoly. If you want people to start waking up summerize this video. Our founding fathers did not want this country like this. This country has lost it’s freedom and it’s consititution. However, if you are going to win this fight, you have to define you cause a little more clearly. People do not know what you are fighting for. I know it, because I know how this system works and the puppets masters that control it and screwed the world out of Trillions of dollars. View this link and download it, make DVD copies if you have to. The puppet masters control the government, wall street, and the media. Next, the Internet. Soon we wont have access to this type of information. Please view this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9wYu1SR1Wk&feature=related. It discusses the Money Masters from the mid 1700s till 1996. All what they predicted for the future is true. This video was created in 1996, all of it is true. The only way to change the system is to dissolve the federal reserve bank. The Rothschild’s are the people funding this system. They are the puppet masters. You need more people and the only way to get people to wake up is to have them see the truth. People have more faith in thier country than they do in GOD. Trust me, you cannot take money with you when you leave this world. I always knew that their was a puppet master behind this system, I just didnt know who. Now I know who controls it. There is enough evidence in this video that supports your cause. Fight for one cause. Overthrow the Federal Reserve and you will see. However, in order to that, another revolutionary war may happen. These banksters will not go quietly. I cannot go out and protest due to health reasons, but I would be more than happy to assist your cause in research, writing and marketing. Your fight is not with Wall Street, it is with the Federal Reserve. Wall Street is just one entity of the system. The Federal Reserve does what they want. They make the wars, they create recessions and depressions and the interest rates. They regulate banks, wall street, and fund what politicians they want on office. They also decide how much we are supposed to pay for a gallon of gas. These men are the biggest crooks than the Costra Nostra. I know the video is long. Please watch it, download it, burn it and copy it out to all your members. Make your own video, a shorter video with your own video and dialogue. Use the facts and the qoutes from all of the founding fathers and the people who admitted to these controlling puppet masters. In the 60s they almost beatr the system. But the people of the 60s were bought out. They won in thier own minds cause the war ended, but peace was only for a little while. War makes money for these bastards. They are the ones that light the match for the war and fund both sides, and in return are paid in interest from both countries. They are the ones in the background pulling the strings.
Any questions you have for me feel free to email me.

Watch Matt Taibbi, who wrote the story, explain the fraud:
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqZUbe9KIMs&feature=related

Our members in AFSCME Local 3145, who represent blood collection workers at the Connecticut Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross, launched an unfair labor practice (ULP) strike Nov. 3, 2011.

Local 3145 members have worked nearly three years without a contract while the employer continues its efforts to strip away fundament bargaining rights and break the law.

Local 3145 members gained legal vindication when a federal judge ruled Aug. 29 that the CT Blood Services Region broke the law by engaging in unfair labor practices that led to the 2010 strike.

The Red Cross unfortunately has refused to obey the law and reach a fair agreement, forcing our members to go out on strike. In fact, the company made even more regressive proposals during last-ditch negotiations on Nov. 2.

“I’m not out here just to protect my benefits. I’m here with my family for respect,” said Local 3145′s Tashonda Thompson, a Red Cross phlebotomist. “We’re the front line of the Red Cross. Without us, there’s no blood for them to make their profits from.”

    How can you help?

Join AFSCME Local 3145 members on the picket line. Picketing is taking place daily at Red Cross headquarters, 209 Farmington Ave., Farmington, CT.  (From I-84 East or West, Take 39. Bear right at end of ramp onto Farmington Ave. The Red Cross is less than a mile on the right, just after the UConn Health Center. Please park across the street in the Loehman’s Plaza lot.)
Support Red Cross workers by contributing to our strike fund. You can make your check payable to “Council 4 Solidarity Fund, 444 East Main St., New Britain, CT 06051.

Hit WALL STREET where it will feel it the most…IN ITS WALLET!!! BY MONEY!!!

You should have an alternative for 99% of Americans.
    For example:
WHERE TO BANK? Answer: Banks whose CEO do NOT make 300x what their workers make
WHAT FUEL TO USE? Answer: A company who is investing lots of $$$ in alternative fuels
WHAT DEPT STORE TO SHOP? Answer: A Dept Store whose CEO does NOT make 300x what their workers make…Alternative method of products…Only in America
WHAT CARS TO BUY? Answer: Alternative Fueled cars. Only in America Co/ Good Employment record
Each of these companies, the CEO MUST be wiling to be interviewed by YOU!!!

Use this method on ALL normal/usual/everyday products and services!!!!
Contact entertainers/religious leaders/Sports folks/Politicians to support the cause!!!!

  65. Occupy Yoga

How can we all help? I believe we can help greatly by no longer using the term: “We Are the 99%”. To use the term 99% creates an Us v Them mentality, and it is divisional and exclusionary. It’s our belief and preference to use the term 100% or 99+1%… If we are all in this together for our future, and the planet as a whole, then the only option is to see ourselves working together towards the 100%. Let’s speak to our future, and tomorrow.

    Hi,

I am with the “Peanut Butter and Jelly Gang” (you can find us on facebook). We are a food bank and soup kitchen on Long Island and we would like to bring food and personal hygiene items to you this Saturday evening, if you need them.

I have looked at your website and know where to drop these off but I want to ensure that you can use the items. There would probably be 300 fresh sandwiches as well as 100 wash up kits which would include soap, towels, toothpaste etc. Can you use these things? Please let me know. If so, I plan on driving into the city after 9 p.m. this Saturday evening.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

I would like to make a contribution to OWS. However, I am concerned as the radio programs here in So Cal. are claiming that the protestors in San Diego are causing havoc, urinating on food carts, costing the city thousands of dollars for police to maintain order etc.

Is there truth to any of these reports? The info is being broadcast by Rick Roberts of 760 KFMB

    Thank you

    • Teri Pettit

Randy, I don’t know about San Diego (I live in San Jose), but see my comment at the bottom about the need for counter balancing the sensationalist reports.

My guess (unfortunately without data to support it, other than experience with Occupy Oakland) is that there are indeed some protesters in San Diego doing those things, but they are a small minority, and not supported by the movement mainstream. At least in Oakland, some of the vandals do identify themselves with Occupy, but they do not share the majority belief in non-violence. (Those are the ones in hoods seen smashing windows or spray-painting.) The people in various cities attacking food vendors or engaging in fights or public obscenity are usually not politically motivated at all, they are just the kind of angry street people with mental health or substance abuse problems who were hanging out downtown even BEFORE Occupy. They get perceived as part of Occupy simply because the same public spaces are being used.

Also, cities often claim the “need” for a much larger police presence than is required. Certainly that is the case in Oakland and Berkeley. There is no need for hundreds of police in riot gear ringing the street in an intimidating bully display. That is a TOTAL waste of city money. Cities would do better to maintain cordial relations and ask the Occupy organizers what kind of assistance they could provide in protecting property and protecting peaceful merchants and protesters from disruptive elements. It would generally be a much smaller staff than the city thinks is needed.

One thing I would consider donating to is for reimbursement funds for Occupy groups to contribute back to the city coffers for salaries of sanitation workers, etc., with a request for the city to publicize on local news that they are being reimbursed. For Occupy to get critical mass understanding from the silent majority of the 99% who sit at home and know only what they see on television, it is going to have to be very VISIBLE in its non-violence and respect for the commons. The majority is a great bunch of people, but the majority is not SEEN enough.

I’m one of those “over-compensated” Civil

I’m one of those “over-compensated” Civil Service retirees (from NY State) who’s living on an old-fashioned “defined benefit” pension. The kind of thing that the Governors of Ohio, Florida, Wisconsin et. al. seem to HATE. Well, let me tell you that I think that I’ve earned it, and it wasn’t stolen from the State’s taxpayers. Earned it in the sense that my salary was usually several steps below that of people doing comparable work in the private sector. I never rose to the level of the 1%-ers, of course. I doubt whether even our Governor makes as much as even a middle-level hedge fund manager on Wall Street.

Now, with the pension, I make nowhere near what I made on the job, and I’m deep down in the 99%, so I’m all for what #ows is doing. Keep it up!

  75. Teri Pettit

Can donations be targeted to specific needs?

Here is what I would like to help with. There is a hugely distorted of what Occupy LOOKS LIKE among the general public, because the national media emphasizes the sensationalist clips of violence and the most outrageous elements they can find. They even send their reporters to seek out the scruffiest protesters with the most extreme posters to interview, in hopes of getting some wacko speeches to put in the news or put on the Breitbart type web sites, in hopes they’ll go viral.

Searching for balancing examples on YouTube etc. is difficult, because number of prior views heavily weighs what gets brought to front. Protests, marches, and police actions get a lot of views; meetings and workshops don’t.

So it would be ENORMOUSLY helpful in spreading awareness of what the everyday work inside Occupy is like if all of the important events (the ones that get listed in the Events calendar) would be recorded, and then after the event, the best videos would be uploaded uncut, and the Events calendar page for that event would be updated to contain links and tweet tags to those videos.

Then when someone sees anti-Occupy propaganda getting passed around, they could easily go to the event calendar, and share those links, spreading the truth to counter the garbage. Right now, the truth is too hard to find.

Also, many of the workshop and teaching events, like the Non-Violent Communication training, or the Money in Politics event or the Occupy the Polls training, could become valuable resources for Occupy assemblies in other cities. Again, while I imagine many of them are already being recorded, the recordings are too hard to find. The wheat is lost in the chaff.

So I would like to contribute towards cell phones, batteries, web hosting fees, and anything else that might help the “working event” side of Occupy to be easily and widely visible to the entire world.

    • Matt D

Seems like a good idea. I especially like the idea of recording the non-violent communication workshops for other cities to benefit from. I happen to be siting next to one of the trainers right now and will suggest it. Thanks @teripettit .

As for donations for equipment, it’s fine to donate money at the link above. It all goes into a general fund which would be used for whatever video equipment is needed for such things.

You might also want to make this suggestion to the internet working group, since they would be the ones to aggregate the links to the videos. http://www.nycga.net/groups/tech/

With all the states trying to suppress voting for ordinary Americans, and the fact that who we vote for is responsible for the loose regulations on Wall Street — why aren’t we ‘Occupying the Vote’? — in all those states where the suppression is a funded effort to deny voting in 2012 and continue the debacle that allowed Wall Street to happen in the first place?

  86. Chris

Hey, I don’t know if this is the right forum for this but I just want to say that I am a strong supporter of what you guys are all doing. It’s about time someboday is standing up for the truth of what is and has been happening in this country. I admit that I am a local government employee at the present (a municipal health inspector), and though right now I feel lucky to have this job, what is happening to a large number of people in this country is ridiculous. Even for those of us who have jobs, we should be getting more for our efforts and contributions. No one in this office has gotten a single raise in over 3 years. I still can’t afford to move out and live on my own, and yet my boss makes over 5 TIMES my salary. That is not right, and that doesn’t even compare to the top 1% that you guys are standing up against.

However, from what I know and have seen I have some suggestions for you guys:

There really needs to be some sort of large group established in Washington DC. The property surrounding the White House, the Capitol Building and even Washington Monument should all be occupied (peacefully). The people occupying these areas should be well aware of the issues and how things of changed for the worse since the founding fathers started this country out of the American Revolution.

Besides those locations, one other VERY important location where there should be an Occupation (and which I’m surprised there isn’t already, unless I just haven’t heard about it) is the the Federal Reserve Board located on C Street N.W. Why there are no protesters here I have not a clue, but there certainly should be. Many of the economic problems in this country stem from the Interest-ridden Debt-driven Dollar that is produced by this institution. With a debt-free monetary system, I feel many of the economic problems of the US would be fixed or least made less severe.

One another institution people should be gathering at is IRS headquarters, located in between Pennsylvania and Constitution Avenue. There is also a building where the IRS does most of its computer programming in Maryland as well, but the main headquarters is the DC location. Showing resistance to the agency that enforces the Federal Income Tax (an unconstitutional, direct, unaportioned tax that was never ratified by an efficient number of states) would, I think, help address the another root of the problem even further.

All of the people involved in this movement should really have a clear cut idea of what they want done and what needs to be done to address the problem. The enthusiasm, spirit and patriotism is excellent as their political freedom is being sufficiently expressed. The social and economical freedoms are not, and in order to do that there needs to be more of a clear-cut idea needed to push forward. It’s like saying I don’t like this cookie, and then asked what kind of cookie you do like, the response is “I don’t know.” Know what I mean?

Anyway, that’s my input. I hope this goes as far as it could possibly go and forces a positive change in America. I’m with you all.

    Chris

You guys should think careful about. Please you guys tell these truth to all everyone participate in the activities and everywhere occupation activities take place.

  89. mike

NOT even a single person with no children can be self sufficient on $8 bucks per hour, minus taxes, minus gas, minus insurance, minus over priced rent.. etc. Raising the minimum wage would solve just about everything. For example:IYou want to get these greedy, disgusting, corporate clowns attention? Quit shopping at Wal-mart and big corporate chains and start shopping at small businesses. Also, reduce your insurance coverage to liability only if you can. Shop at second hand stores, get everything used. Why buy new? It’s considered used the minute you buy it anyways. Only buy the cheapest food, rough it for a while, the other greedy companies will have to lower their prices, their stocks would fall, their income will go down. WE are the 99% they will feel it. Raising minimuge wage would be great because these corporate hoards would have to pay their workers something they can actually live on, and intead of taking home 20 million per year each, they may have to only take home 2 million per year. WHO CAN’T live on 2 million a year??? Get what you want at garage sales .. Quit going to corporate restaurant chains… go to ma and pa places. Trade services, barter with eachother…

Occupy Wall Street turns to the A United World Social Network (WE Party) for help to create change without protesting. The (http://www.aunitedworld.net) Social Network is for “People Helping People Online” This has nothing to do with the Tea Party. It’s the WE, Party and it appeals to 100% of the people, 100% of the time.

The WE Party is about helping and inspiring others primarily online. It’s about doing what’s right. If a person does something that 99 out of 100 people feel is right and there is one person that doesn’t feel that way, then it is wrong! WE are the people with Character!

Occupy Wall Street turns to the WE Party (www.we.net)

WE will know more when the WE Party Volunteer Online Mentors complete our talks with the Super Committee and Occupy Wall Street. Right now WE are at 99 1/2%.

  96. Arlan Berglas

The WE party mentors have helped with the debt crisis in Greece, the unification of North and South Korea, the conflicts with Palestine and Israel. WE can help right here in our own back yard!

Okay here it is…. The Super Committee is going to come up with a plan shortly. Now, lets say there are 100 items on the Super Committee’s list. As each item on the list is agreed to unanimously by 100% of the democrats and republicans, that one item goes into the WE Party Committee (www.weparty.info). The WE Party only looks at what we do have in common and has nothing to do with what WE don’t have in common.

This WE Party Committee is about moving forward with 100% collective consciousness on what we do have in commom and collectively works on ways we can move forward together. The WE Party Mentor is an online volunteer (www.wepartymentor.info) that helps and inspires others online in a variety of ways. The WE Party Mentors (www.wepartymentors.info) often have WE PARTIES (www.weparties.info) to help and inspire others.

In regard to Occupy Wall Street, the WE Party can help here too! Using the same Pass It Forward Philosophy (www.pifphilosophy.info), we can work item for item and one by one create WE Party Committee’s to help us move forward.

I am in Fargo, ND and I support you guys 100%. I think it is shameful the ways in which the established classes are trying to marginalize your voice. I am tired of having a ‘democratic’ system which does not listen to the voices of it’s own people. A system where the politicians are so blatantly serving their own self interests and the interests of the wealthy. A country where our own property is gladly up for sale to the highest bidder like Rick Perry runs his state. We are the 99% and we’re sick of this broken political system.

Hi, I found this posting on KickStarter – http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1826916039/this-is-our-wall-street-by-leeman-brothaz

The contributions are intended to help fund a Music Event in NYC called “Battle Against the Brands” which will feature all the upcoming musicians that sing about our economy. This is a great idea which will:

    1) Help #OWS find a musical theme for the movement
    2) Tie more people together to support #OWS movement
    3) Help fund small businesses and begin an anti big-business campaign…Small businesses need a jumpstart in order to bring back what America really stands for.

What percent of the occupies are vegan vs omnivores? The reason for this question is as follows. Is this a consensus request or did a vegan make this request for everyone?

I think OWS needs to put pressure on the republican congressional representatives to rescind their pledge to Grover Norquist. A serious lambasting and over exposure to the American people of this practice could get people talking.

    Hello,

    http://davidbrin.wordpress.com/2011/11/13/move-over-frank-miller-or-why-the-occupy-wall-street-kids-are-better-than-spartans/

If the Occupy Movement results in the development of a parallel (or even better perpendicular) questioning media of the people as opposed to the current Media which is owned by the Leech Elite for the benefit of the Leech Elite – then it can only be positive.

I recommend that the Occupy Movement asks each of it supporters to set up a €1 (or $1) per month direct debit to fund this Global Media Network of the People. If we can get 10 million people Globally to support the initiative – it will raise €120 million per year to finance the People’s Global Media Network.

    Best regards,

    Dermot.

I’m writing to you to suggest the OWS movement should hold a candlelight vigil for the recently slain NYC Police officer. I’m a stay at home dad who is very supportive of the OWS movement and have attended a few events in between raising my daughters.

I believe it would be a class act for the OWS movement to conduct this Candlelight vigil either Friday 12/16 or Saturday 12/17. This could add more people to support OWS and “maybe” reduce the tension between NYPD and the movement. Thank you for all that you are doing.

    • Rosina

Great idea Larry…I had not heard about this. What exactly happened and when? My hope is that it can happen in the middle of the week when I am not working. I have been to OWS twice and see that this is in keeping with the core values of the occupation. I hope that you get the support necessary for this to become a reality, if you haven’t gotten it already.

I’ve been browsing on-line greater than 3 hours today, yet I by no means found any attention-grabbing article like yours. It is pretty value sufficient for me. In my view, if all web owners and bloggers made good content as you probably did, the internet will be a lot more helpful than ever before.

Well done video! I was with you at Foley Square on Nov. 17; have gone to 60 Wall and met with Justin on Nov. 23. Willing to freeze my ass off in the very near future (well the weather has been kind as of late). Good oppurtunity this week to organize something.

I started a petition requesting the California legislature withhold all state funds that are allocated to the rogue law enforcement agencies in California that abused and attacked peaceful demonstrators. The only way to prevent the militarization of the police is to deny the huge funds that are spent without public and constitutional policing accountability. I support police officers but that support is not blind and expects adherence to their sworn duty to uphold the Constitution.

    • Natasha CopsResent

There is no way the funding can be cut off that way, sadly. Right now Oakland is instituting massive lay-offs among public employees (possibly in retaliation for the union’s solidarity), Despite a crippling shortfall in revenue, there are NO layoffs planned for the police.
The only law the OPD prioritizes is property law. The department is under fire from the courts for failing year after year to comply with a consent decree dating from a 2003 civil rights / corruption case. The judge has been promising a federal take-over to step in and carry out the compliance. Will federal receivership be any better? Hope springs eternal, but the taste seems less sweet after each betrayal and disappointment from the reformists in the movement.

I live in Czech Republic and I want to thank you, because of your heroism, actions and because you are great prove we (99.9% of powerless peoples) are still here and still want fight for our rights and prosperity. Thank you, friends:o)

you ows folks are the greatest !

i like what you have done, are doing and still may yet get done.

but it seems to me WE need to focus on getting a “CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION ” Convened so that we can lawfully have the most corrupted part of our national government – the u s senate- ABOLISHED and all its vested power returned to the one legislative branch that honestly and proportional represents the will of ALL the american people.

the only way to LAWFULLY abolish the u s senate is to do it via a majority vote of the american people during a ( web based) CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION.

i will be working for this goal and please know each and every one of you dear peaceful bravest warriors of non-violence that i have ever know of will be in my prays and thought ever remaining hour of my life until we make this world as peaceful. as good and as love centered as it can be/ as it was created to be.

I wasn’t sure where to turn to but who do i contact to try to setup a contribution from proceeds from a startup clothing company? One of my partners is one of the top designers at Ecko Inc and we believe in this cause so much that we decided to make our first t-shirt to support OWS. This isn’t your typical OWS shirt and we have this sick symbolizm that my partner created that perfectly fits what we’re fighting for. This is 100% made in brooklyn and nothing overseas including the t-shirt itself. The reason we did this was to try to make OWS more than a movement and believe me, regardless if you support the cause or not, this t-shirt is a coversation starter whereever you go. This will spread the word. These t-shirts are designed that you would be proud to wear in a club. A fashion statement. I wanted to take the proceeds minus my costs and donate to OWS but not sure who to even contact to start the convo. Can someone please lead me in the right direction? thanks! and anyone that wants to see pics of the shirts made I’ll be happy to email them to you or email our website (i’d put it up now but not sure what the rules are about outside links)

    • Maneswar Cheemalapati

It’s crazy you haven’t received a response, but i’d suggest looking up some of the working groups here, probably start with Accounting / Finance… message the designated admins posted at the top of their page, they should be able to direct you. Alternatively, speak to someone at the sponsor link above, ask them for an OWS contact. Message me if you don’t get anywhere and with your tshirt website link.

Although it is July my thoughts are that the colder months are not to far off. My concern is that not enough people will have the proper attire for these months. I much like most am a struggling American but am looking to try and receive donations for yarn so I can start the process of knitting as many hats as I can for all of you that can be there and stand strong for us 99%. I do work a full time job and have two children but I am going to be diligently working in all my spare time on this endeavor. Once I have a solid contribution I would like to send them or if possible plan a trip to deliver in person. if someone could email me the details of where I should deliver this contribution that would be wonderful. thank you. casey.ninjabunny@gmail.com
