We, the Sustainability working group of Occupy Wall Street, are a group of activists, creatives, scientists and professionals. We demonstrate and implement actions we can take collectively and as individuals to reduce our negative impact and create a positive impact on the planet for future generations.
We recognize that the economy – indeed, human civilization – is dependent on and must support the living systems, biodiversity, and cultural diversity of the planet. The current economic model is fundamentally unsustainable due to its disconnection from/disrespect for nature, its destruction of community and its worship of profit above all else. We respectfully articulate attainable, meaningful goals for our country and our world, balancing personal fulfillment, environmental well-being and social and economic justice.
