    And here as well: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/22/occupy-national-convention-philadelphia_n_1293858.html#

    And here: http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2012/02/22/147260841/occupy-movement-plans-national-conference-in-philadelphia?ft=1&f=1001

    And here too: http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2012-02-22/occupy-philadelphia-conference/53208588/1

    This level of co-optation is NOT good for Occupy. Especially considering who’s leading this.

    You should call the news agencies. I have a feeling that its the fault of the news agencies who do not differentiate between offshoots. They will deem anything that states occupy or the slogan “99%” as OWS. News agencies screw up like this all the time, its a point of laziness on their part. Its obvious from the Declaration website that they are the ones running delegates and they don’t indicate anything about OWS or occupy in any way. You can take a look at it here: http://www.the99declaration.org/

    Here’s a tweet to send:

    OccupyWallStNYC: .@eyderp Please correct the title and @NPRNews tweet about the @99Declaration, which… http://dlvr.it/1Dmrkn #OWS #uk #usa

    @Urbaned

    That is a really great idea, they can post a retraction or rather identify the right group who are going about electing delegates. It would be helpful for them to understand that OWS and the 99% Declaration group are two separate organizations going about tackling the same problem albeit using different methods and tactics.

    It appears that the statement “eternal vigilance is the price of liberty” is very apropos for OWS.

    @Urbaned

    Its a quote attributed to Thomas Jefferson and often to Wendell Phillips, its earliest appearance in print is dated at 1838.

    Interesting that so many of the comments on the article were along the lines of “Great to see Occupy getting into electoral politics”.

    Rather than oppose this sentiment, could it be deflected along the lines of “Electoral politics good, empowering yourself through direct democracy, better”?

    @Urbaned We have been contacting the media tirelessly, however some have refused to retract this article. I’ve also reached out to the Media Team, for a statement to be made…gotta nip stuff like this in the bud! No one should want to be associated with this project….

    Well, I don’t think it’s such a big deal. I hope I’m not minimizing, but frankly, after OWS started, I lost all trust in Main Stream Media. If the statement is made that we are not supporting the 99%D, then the truth will be available to those who care.

    My true feeling is that it might be a worthy cause. Only, there is no reason to promote it via OWS. There are a gazillion worthy causes in the world, and I think OWS has to carefully vet the ones it wants to support. I think this one was premature.

    OWS PR released this – http://press.nycga.net/2012/02/23/ows-pr-statement-on-99-declaration/

    I think we need much more coordination between occupations and other people working towards similar goals. Even if we all called for a “national GA,” I think most people would not be able to attend anyhow.

    I also think that if there ever was to be a “national GA” that it should be in DC and not simply a GA but something along the lines of what I read in the book “An Act of State” which is a jolting book every American should read about the MLK assassination which had this piece of info which I think should be circulated since the idea is a fantastic one:

    “By mid-1967, he began to formulate a strategy to address the widening gap between the rich & the poor. The project gradually took the form not of a march by itself but the extensive Poor People’s Campaign and mobilization culminating in an encampment in the shadow of the Washington memorial. The projection was for the establishment of a tent city of some 500,000 of the nation’s poorest and most alienated citizens, who would regularly lobby their elected officials for a range of socio-economic legislation. They would remain as long as it took to get action from the Congress.”

    We are ready to work with #OWS or debate our differences any time. Rather than attack us and name call, we not debate the issues in an adult manner? Just a thought. http://www.thenationalgeneralassembly.org/
