Problems and Solutions Working Doc (Please add your ideas)

Note: WORKING DOCUMENT – Not approved by the GA and not Intended for Public Use

This is a proposed working document to start to consolidate and organize our ideas on the problems of our government and how these can be solved.

Notes:  To keep it organized, the proposal is that we CAPITALIZE/BOLD/ITALICIZE our titles (try to keep the title as concise as possible) and bullet items below the item.  If your ideas are already on the list and you have more to add, simply embellish the existing idea so we are not redundant.  As time goes on, we can maybe start linking problems to solutions?  Generally, let’s be additive rather than subtractive, so this acts as a catch-all.  Maybe in the future, we can streamline and edit.  So let’s give it a shot?

LIST OF SOLUTIONS:

OVERTURN CORPORATE PERSONHOOD

  • This would allow laws to be put in place to limit corporate participation in our democracy
  • Since it was set in motion by the supreme court, there needs to be either a constitutional amendment or a supreme court decision to accomplish this

OPEN BALLOT ACCESS

  • Proposed, that ballot access requirements should be the same for every candidate, irrespective of party affiliations. This helps Two-Party Tyranny.  See Free & Equal. (from Steel and Turner)
  • etc…

What do you think of starting a catch all document for our ideas? Seems like so much is floating around, might be a good idea to have a central location to store the basics. Maybe this can be somehow converted such that we can start to vote on them, and feel out what really has consensus, at least internally.
