Dirty Power at the UN–March 24th
On May 1st, Occupy Wall Street will join the Labor Movement, the Student Movement, and the Immigrants’ Rights Movement across the country and the world in mobilizing for the rights of the 99%. With collective bargaining under attack, tuition skyrocketing, and unemployment riding high, we will stand with our allies on May Day, the traditional labor holiday, to assert our collective power. In solidarity with Occupy LA’s call for a national general strike and the Immigrants’ Rights Movement’s call for “A Day without the 99%,” we call upon people to refrain from shopping, walk out of class, take the day off of work, and other creative forms of resistance. Throughout the day, there will be pop-up occupations with educational events, musical performances, and street theater leading into marches and acts of non-violent civil disobedience to disrupt the status quo of the 1%.
This day of action will be both a culmination of a spring of escalating actions (starting with “Shut Down the Corporations” against the American Legislative Exchange Council or ALEC on February 29th) and a kickoff for a national summer of resistance including actions against the G8/NATO at Camp David and the national political conventions.
