OWS MWG 2012 Parody Album Proposal

Posted by & filed under .

hello all –

so an idea that has been floating around the music group is to produce an
OWS MWG “parody album” based on the top 10 hits of 2012.  These songs would
be written in “occupy style” lyrically using either new instrumentals that
we record or using the real song  karaoke-style instrumental tracks.  to
make this process as inclusive as possible, and probably a lot better, we’d
put up a simple website for submissions from people around the world.
also, final album to be a free digital download.

what’s needed:

- website with a submission form
- studio for recording
- audio editors  (me, polar.. anyone else?)
- musicians for recording tracks
- karaoke instrumentals
- outreach / PR to get the word out
- video help upon completion?

some song suggestions:

- Fun “We Are Young”
- Psy “Gangham Style”
- Kanye West “Mercy”
- Nicki Minaj “Starships”
- Goyte “Someone That I Used To Know”
- Taylor Swift “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”
- Adele “Rumor Has It”
- One Direction “One Thing” / “What Makes You Beautiful”
- Carly Rae Jepson “Call Me Maybe”
- Kelly Clarkson “What Doesn’t Kill You (Makes You Stronger)”
- Flo Rida “Wild Ones”
- LMFAO “Sexy and I Know it” (technically 2011)
- Maroon 5 “Moves Like Jagger” or “Payphone”
- Katy Perry “Wide Awake”
- others?

when:  completion by December

where:

- goldishack (recording vocals, editing)
- polar’s (recording vocals, editing)
- Buskerville for larger recording (
http://www.rockethub.com/projects/11392-buskerville)
- other resources?

Topics (from Philly National Gathering visioning document):

- -get money out of politics
- -income disparity
- -corporate personhood
- -workers rights
- -environment/fracking
- -foreclosures
- -no justice for criminal activity of the banks/LIBOR/bailout
- -war on women
- -immigration
- -prison industrial complex/-stop and frisk
- -drones/military accountability

i also think that having some consensus process for what is included on the
album would help in the case we get more submissions than we can use.

the end.
