Where: Washington Square Park, meet at the fountain
When: Friday, October 21st, 6-9pm, or however late people want to stay!
What: Teach and learn about the intersections between Occupy Wall Street and the labor and education conditions of CUNY faculty, staff, and students. Strategize next steps and actions going forward.
Themes: WHY PRIVATIZATION IS PERSONAL + MOBILIZING FOR ACTION AT CUNY AND BEYOND
Q: How and why is our public university becoming privatized? Why does it matter? What can we do about it? What strategies and tactics might be most effective at combating this, and how can we begin to implement them right now?
This (p)articipatory teach-in will be mostly small group activities focused on networking, brainstorming, and strategizing actions (we are trying to have a mix of facilitators, including undergraduate students). There will be awesome visuals including a rad poster featuring octopi and mangroves (a corollary to the CUNY Edufactory poster).
Please come, tell your students and teachers, and bring your friends, comrades, allies, and neighbors! This is really for anyone who wants to organize around “public” education, including all those being excluded from and exploited by it.
p.s. The OWS website has the wrong time/date for this event–it is actually, definitely on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21ST, AT 6PM. (We are trying to get this changed…)
