Disability Caucus meeting, 6/26/12, 5:30pm at Union Square Park by the Gandhi statue.
Agenda item 1) Meeting place.
We all agree to continue meeting here at the Gandhi statue every week for now
Oineke suggests another place to meet but I miss the location
Agenda item 2) ADA observance on 7/26/12: are we doing it?
We should provide a history lesson but we need people to listen to us, at least try getting our own people together. But how can we get people to work if they won’t even come to these meetings?
Agenda item 3) Domestic violence survivors, chronic illness, solidarity with Doctors for the 99%, we need to focus on AIDS and human rights.
Connie says Doctors for the 99% bargain with and support unions which support bad hospitals at the expence of housing. We discuss the criminalizing of AIDS. Connie says she can’t work with Doctors for the 99%, they are propping up corruption and evil..
Nadina reminds us that OWS takes no political positions.
Ramon mentions a march this Friday against the media.
Connie says the AOT bill, aka Assisted Outpatient Treatment, aka Kendra’s law, will not be voted on this year but we must oppose it.
Nadina asks Connie to print something up about it so we can put it on the table of information that OWS provides.
Nadina says right now we’re just talking to ourselves, we should do something, go upfront, wear signs, hand out flyers, etc. We should talk to people here in Union Square.
Philip suggests we can meet here one week then at CIDNY the next, then here the next and so on.
Originally we all met at Zacotti Park and had an audience but we don’t have that anymore, now we need to actively work to get people to see us and join us.
Danielle suggests we should set five-year goals, long-term objectives.
The next Feminist Assembly will be in Harlem.
