Save the Historic Bronx General Post Office!

STOP THE SALE OF HISTORIC BRONX GENERAL POST OFFICE

12 NOON RALLY IN FRONT OF THE BRONX GPO

SATURDAY  JULY 27, 2013

149T  ST, & GRAND CONCOURSE

2,4,5 TRAINS  TO 149th ST.

Bureaucrat  Tom Samra, US Postal Service (USPS) Vice President of Facilities,  a USPS appointee has the audacity to decide to illegally close the Bronx General Post Office. Sell the GPO that has served-the Bronx community  for over 75 years? Not so fast!  This USPS hatchet man can’t sell what the USPS DOESN’T OWN. Samra is violating statutes that preserve our Bronx institution. Do not trust the puppets of the 1%ers.

The Post Office Belongs to the People!

On July 26, 1775, the Continental  Congress mandated the first post office and appointed Benjamin Franklin the first Postmaster General. For almost 240 years, the labor movement  and communities have built and serviced our network of many thousands of post offices. The Bronx GPO should be a landmark: it has murals and sculpture created by Works Progress  Administration  (WPA) artists during the Great Depression.

The government  owns the post offices that provide nationwide multiple services  to the communities/people.  Rights to these services  are embedded in the Constitution. Communities are stakeholders  like any investors. The public MUST be consulted  before any post office bureaucrat  decides to close or sell off thousands  of post offices including the Bronx GPO.

POST OFFICE SALES CAN AND MUST BE STOPPED.  8000 post offices MUST be defended.  On July 27th coordinated protests all across the country from Oakland to New York will commemorate  the founding of the first post office. Rallies’ marches and creative activities are in the planning stages. The Bronx GPO is the largest and oldest threatened post office! With over 75 years of service to the surrounding neighborhoods.

ALL OUT ON July 27th!

Defend the workers, primarily people of color, Latino/a, Black and women who live in the Bronx. Defend their unions, jobs and benefits. CLUPJS,  a coalition of postal workers and community  activists has battled the USPS and their corporate  and financial  world allies.

CLUPJS is calling for UNITED ACTION. CLUPJS  is organizing  with other constituencies  and organizations  to stop the cuts and closures. STOP the concessions. STOP the dismantling! STOP the USPS from from privatizing  and selling off our historic post offices.

Petty USPS bureaucrats say to BRONX  residents, “The Bronx GPO Must Go”. Our answer MUST be an outpouring of city residents on July 27th.

DEMAND: HANDS OFF THE BRONX  GPO

WHOSE  POST OFFICE? OUR POST OFFICE!
