Occupy Data will having a 3-day Intensive Data Anywhere Workshop July 12,13,14th at the CUNY Graduate Center.
A non-exhaustive list of people this workshop will interest includes: open data enthusiasts, community and other groups interested in opening their data, developers, and researchers. Please help us get the word out!
Many data repositories exist, but they enable only top-down data sharing by governments and institutions, or entail various types of digital handcuffs that can sometimes be unknowingly placed on users. Data Anywhere uses an open source framework and allows anyone to participate, enabling “top-down” and “bottom-up” data sharing. Also, individual databases replicate themselves (we’ll teach you how!) to create a data architecture that is more robust to the failure of individual systems and allows data to persist.
What you’ll learn: participants will get step by step instruction for configuring and securing some flavor of linux server, some python, nosql databases and more.
Please share the word! Workshop is free but please register by July 10th. More details can be found here: http://occupydatanyc.org/2013/06/21/data-anywhere-returns-3-day-intensive-workshop-712-14th/
This event is supported by Occupy Data and students at the CUNY.
