Big Real Estate tried to break the bank by buying New York City Council elections. But they failed because our democracy is protected by the City’s strong public financing system.
However, New York State election laws are so weak that big developers can spend almost unlimited funds to get political access. By handing out legal bribes to Albany lawmakers, they buy tax breaks to build luxury towers for the ultra-rich. Meanwhile, those same big developers are decimating our stock of affordable housing and rights as tenants.
The Moreland Commission needs to investigate the Real Estate Board of NY, home to the biggest real estate moguls in America, and pressure the State Legislature to enact real campaign finance reform. Join us to demand a complete investigation of real estate bribery and Fair Elections for New York.
