SUMMARY:June 1st Reoccupation Discussion
DESCRIPTION:We are having a conversation about trying to build back up to having an
active presence in Liberty Plaza as a means to interact with and educate
the public once again just how the shit got fucked up and bullshit - to try
to rebuild a sense of community that has waned in the intervening months\,
and to revitalize the resistance efforts more broadly by making them
accessible to the public by having a consistent\, predictable presence. We
may not be able to lock down an encampment at Liberty Plaza but we can
certainly reclaim the use of the space as a public forum\, and have an
awesome late-spring day in the park together in a way we haven't in a long
time.\n\nOnline conversations kind of suck\, especially at identifying who
the stakeholders in a conversation are. They certainly aren't
\"consensus\,\" and a decision of the sort that this conversation is
replicating would need to be an open and horizontal conversation. This
seems like the kind of conversation that should be had by the people who
would be the ones doing it\, without any pressures or expectations about
what would come out of that conversation. Some people had some of this
conversation already - reportback below. We want MORE people to have MORE
of the conversation\, and wholeheartedly invite everyone to 100 William
Street at 5pm on Wednesday\, May 25th to continue this
discussion.\n\nOccupy here in NYC is a lot of different groups\, all of
whom are stakeholders. Please help reach out to them and invite them to
this conversation\, so everyone who is invested in this can have a place to
come together in community and be heard. The more of us there are\, the
greater the change we can bring together in this world!

SUMMARY:Hands Off Assata! Uncle Sam Is The Real Terrorist!
DESCRIPTION:[caption id=\"\" align=\"alignnone\" width=\"590\"]<img alt=\"\"
 src=\"http\:\\blackisbackcoalition.org\22.jpg\" width=\"590\"
 height=\"942\" \> Assata Shakur[\caption]\n<p align=\"left\">On Thursday\,
May 9\, 2013 at 5pm Eastern Standard Time\, the New York City Chapter of
the Black is Back Coalition for Social Justice Peace and Reparations (BIBC)
will hold a demonstration in front of the Harlem State Office Building to
protest the U.S. government’s recent announcement of the increased bounty
placed on the life of Assata Shakur from $1 million to $2 million and her
addition to the FBI’s most wanted terrorist list.<\p>\n<p
align=\"left\">The State claims that Assata Shakur is a U.S. domestic
terrorist and is offering money to anyone who can take Assata from Cuba and
bring her back\, dead or alive\, to the U.S. so that she can be forced to
serve the rest of her “life sentence” for the alleged murder of a New
Jersey state trooper in the early 1970s.<\p>\n<p align=\"left\">The BIBC is
absolutely opposed to the U.S. governments labeling of Assata Shakur as a
terrorist. Assata Shakur\, like the masses of African and other oppressed
peoples around the world\, is a victim of terrorism inflicted by the U.S.
government. It is the U.S. government that has the longest track record of
terrorism on the face of the planet. Currently there are over 700 U.S.
military installations in the world today. In each of those colonized
territories suffering such occupation\, the people face outright terror.
The Afghani people suffer civilian casualties on a regular basis due to
trigger happy U.S. Marine maneuvers. The same can be said all over the
 planet.<\p>\n<p align=\"left\">In fact\, Cuba\, the country from which the
U.S. aims to snatch Assata\, has been a decade’s long victim of that same
U.S. terrorism that African people in this country have come to know all
too well. The economic embargos and military restrictions that the U.S. has
imposed on the Cuban government and people are not unlike the public policy
of policy containment of the Black community here in the U.S.\, a policy
which serves at best as a poor substitute for economic development. The
U.S. occupation of Cuba (Guantanamo Bay) is not unlike the police
occupation of the African community. The numerous assassination attempts by
the U.S. on the life of Fidel Castro and other Cuban leaders is not unlike
the U.S. COINTELPRO initiated assassinations of Malcolm X\, Fred Hampton
and Martin Luther King.<\p>\n<p align=\"left\">Assata is being labeled a
terrorist by the U.S. only because of her relationship to the Black
Liberation Army\, which\, during the 1960’s and 70’s engaged in armed
struggle against the U.S. government as a means of liberating Black people
from its oppressive domination. The U.S. is intensifying its attack on all
remnants and symbols of resistance from the last genuine period of
revolutionary struggle in this country. This attack on Assata is an attack
on the African Liberation Movement and African people in general that
cannot go unchecked! This attack on the part of the U.S. is not a sign of
strength. It is a sign of weakness and desperation that was necessary on
the part of U.S. imperialism as a means of overturning the tides of history
that are on course to wipe imperialism completely out of existence.<\p>\n<p
align=\"left\">BIB also understands that the intensifying attack being made
against Assata and the African Liberation Movement in general could only be
 made possible\, with minimal political consequence\, through a neo-colonial
Black president Obama and U.S. attorney general Eric Holder.<\p>\n<p
align=\"left\">While these government officials are Black\, it is clear
that they do not represent the interests of Black people. It is Obama who
has intensified a campaign of imperialist war against African and African
people around the world. It is Obama who has ordered the dropping of drone
bombs in various parts of the African continent. It is Obama who has given
a green light to the police throughout the U.S. to shoot and kill African
people at will\, an initiative that has resulted in the most recent finding
that an African is murdered by the police in the U.S. every 28 hours. The
fact is that while George Bush’s regime set the stage for the bounty on
Assata\, it is Obama who has played the leading role in the play of U.S.
imperialist repression waged around the world\, a play whose final act
consists of such attempts to completely wipe out any remnant of African
resistance within U.S. borders.<\p>\n<p align=\"left\">Assata Shakur on the
other hand\, has represented the genuine interests of African people since
she joined the movement for Black Power\, as she continues to do
today—even as she lives in Cuba in exile because of her acts of righteous
resistance during the 1960s. The Black is Back Coalition is calling on all
lovers of genuine freedom and social justice to unite with us and attend
this very important demonstration being held in defense of Assatta
 Shakur.<\p>\n<p align=\"left\">Free Assatta! Free Sundiata!\nFree Sekou

width=\"518\" height=\"347\" \><\a>\n\nWhy do popular movements fail and
die? Is the problem as simple as their not having the “right ideas” or
the “right form of organization\,” as many people\, among them both
vanguardists and anarchists. say? We don’t think so. As Hegel said\, all
beginnings are defective\; the problem is not that radical movements
don’t immediately succeed\, but that the lack of immediate success causes
them to vanish instead of reorganize. This stopping dead results from lack
of a concept and process for collective review\, re-thinking\, and
re-direction\, i.e.\, the lack of objective grounds from which new
beginnings in thought and activity can arise.\n\nWe will look at the facts
and implications of some high points and vanishings of mass movements in
the 1960s (such as the near-revolution in France in 1968)\, the 1980s (the
 multi-million strong anti-nuke movement)\, and 2000s (the anti-war and
Occupy movements). And we will face the questions raised by their
trajectories. Eschewing romantic defeatism and programmatic solutions\, we
will try to learn some lessons for the future.\n\nSpeakers will include
veterans of 50 years of movement struggles—those of us who want to work
out what the 20th century philosopher Raya Dunayevskaya termed “new
beginnings that determine the end.”\n\n<strong>In person\: Pearl

SUMMARY:“Opening the Doors to Hope” Caravan NYC
DESCRIPTION:&nbsp\;\n\nInternational Humanitarian Pro-Immigrant Coalition (CHIP)\n\n<em
id=\"__mceDel\">and New Sanctuary Movement NY present\:\n“Opening the
Doors to Hope” Caravan\n\nThe Opening the Doors to Hope Caravan is a
faith-based partnership of US and Mexican organizations led by Father
Alejandro Solalinde. As director of the Brotherhood on the Road shelter\,
Fr. Solalinde assists and provides spiritual support to Central and South
American migrants crossing through Mexico\, one of the most dangerous
migration paths in the world. Departing on April 29 from San Diego\, CA\,
the Caravan\, including survivors of human rights violations\, will make
its way across the country until it arrives in New York City on May
22.\n\nThe Caravan demands President Obama act to enforce stricter controls
on assault weapons. More than 20 million illegal guns have entered Mexico
from the United States\, 80% of which are military-style weapons now
forming the arsenal of Mexico's drug cartels. Following La Ruta northward\,
22\,000 migrants have been kidnapped and an additional 70\,000 have
disappeared. The War on Drugs has resulted in more than 50\,000 violent
deaths in the last five years.\nThe New Sanctuary Movement NY cordially
invites you to join us in supporting the Caravan led by Fr. Solalinde\,
clergy and family members of victims. Our hope lies in appealing to our

SUMMARY:March Against Monsanto
DESCRIPTION:Greetings\, citizens of New York City. We are the voices of many\, and we
are well beyond infuriated. Over the past months we have witnessed many
atrocious acts committed by our very own government that accumulates in
multitudes. Most recently\, while most of us were distracted by the Supreme
Court case dealing with the Constitutionality of same-sex marriages within
the state of California\, our ever so beloved leaders stealthily signed
into law the Monsanto Protection Act\, or the Farmer Assurance Provision
2013. This bill states that the Secretary of Agriculture may grant
temporary deregulation status so that genetically modified organism (GMO)
farmers and growers may continue the cultivation of biotech crops that had
previously been approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)\,
even as legal challenges against the safety of those crops are underway\,
and prevents courts from interceding the review process. What's even more
hideous is the clear\, cold fact that lawmakers and lawyers from Monsanto
collaborated in creating the provisions of this criminal act. Yes\, that is
correct\; Sen. Roy Blunt\, Republican of Missouri\, worked in collusion
with lawyers of Monsanto to create legislation that allowed the sale of GM
products that were harmful to the country's citizens. Though it will only
remain in effect for six months until the government finds another way to
fund its operations\, the message it sends is that corporations can get
around consumer safety protections if they get Congress on their side.
Furthermore\, it sets a precedent that suggests that court challenges are a
privilege\, not a right.\n\nThe people have spoken\, and the consensus is
vibrating with outrage. Does your stomach churn at the mere mention of
these sick-in-the-head individuals ruling our every moment? Then join us on
May the 25th as we march through NYC and show Monsanto\, Congress\, the
President\, and the World that We\, the people as a whole\, united as one\,
have had enough. Stand beside your fellow brothers and sisters as we stand
up against those who wish to do us harm so that they may rake in cash at
 the cost of our health\, lives\, and family.\n\nMISSION STATEMENT\:\n<a

planet and enforces patents by forcing farmers to sign \"technology
agreements.\"\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nBut\, despite all this\, food justice means
much more than just Monsanto.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nFood justice means learning the
truth about GMOs\, sure\, but also pesticides\, additives\, and other
corporate toxins.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nFood justice means accepting the urgent
need to grow our own food instead of state-enforced\, pesticide-laden
lawns. FYI\: The most irrigated crop in the U.S. is
lawn!\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nFood justice also means that the animal-based diet is
directly responsible for unspeakable cruelty\, a human health holocaust\,
exploited human workers\, and irreversible environmental devastation - from
deforestation to water pollution to topsoil erosion and well
beyond.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nFood justice means factory farming consumes one-third
of the planet's land surface and is the number one source of human-created
greenhouse gases.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nFood justice means surrendering the
privilege of speciesism.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nFood justice means cultivating\,
eating\, and sharing plant-based\, locally grown\, organic whole
foods.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nFood justice means we have to re-imagine our
relationship with the natural world...NOW.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nJoin me on May 25
to connect the dots...\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nSpread the word\: bring friends\,
bring enemies\, create change.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nNote\: The venue is wheelchair
