Posted by & filed under News, Site News.

As mentioned before, there have been some changes made to the site. The biggest change has been the elimination of the groups on the site. This is due to ongoing maintenance issues associated with BuddyPress, the software used create groups, and the changing nature of the structure of Occupy Wall Street. The primary group features [...]

You may notice some changes to NYCGA.net. Here’s what happened, and why: The servers went down for ~8 hours last week. Possibly a DDOS attack, but definitely made worse by our social networking plugin (BuddyPress). GREAT job on the detective work, Pea and Ross. The groups feature was thus deactivated. Maintenance costs outweighed the benefits, [...]

Can the Spam

Posted by & filed under Site News.

So we got word that some members are getting unsolicited emails and notifications. We’ve added spam to the ‘Report type’ drop down menu in the feedback form. When reporting spam please provide the account username along with a copy of the email or notification for verification. Spammers suck, if you get something sketchy. Tell us.

Group Emails Now Work

Posted by & filed under Site News.

A while ago, we launched group email subscriptions. One of the components of that launch was the ability for group admins to send out an email to every member of that group. However, we learned after launch that while most of the functionality of the emails (subscribing to emails from your group) was working great, [...]

Plans to Restructure Groups

Posted by & filed under Site News.

There are currently about 100 groups on the NYCGA web site and we get more requests for added groups every day. We, at Tech Operations (formerly known as Internet), are very concerned with this situation and after many conversations with other groups in the movement, we know that the negative implications of this are vast [...]

Occupy Intelligence Agency is no more

Posted by & filed under Site News.

I am writing this post in the interest of full transparency. This afternoon, I deleted the group “Occupy Intelligence Agency” from the site. At the time of deletion it had 46 members and very little activity. I made this move for the following reason: I was contacted by an admin from the Think Tank group [...]

“Twinkle” is the new “Like”

Posted by & filed under Site News.

That’s right. In a daring move away from the Zuckerberg standard, we have tweaked our Like Button to now better reflect our direct democracy hand gestures and say “Twinkle”. It may be a bit of an inside joke, but hey – everyone is an insider here, right?
