I.C.E. Breaker” (April 14th) National Day of Action

Posted by & filed under Assemblies, Past Proposals.

In the wake of oppressive state immigration policies like Arizona’s SB 1070 and Alabama’s HB 56 as well as the record high rates of detainment and deportation of undocumented peoples the members of Occupy Birmingham (AL) are calling for a national day of action on April 14th in order to call for Comprehensive Immigration Reform. This day of protest, dubbed “I.C.E. Breaker”, will call on every individual Occupy camp across the country protest at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) detention center nearest them.
In order to facilitate this day of action Occupy Birmingham has put together The Ice Packet, a collection of important information, organizational strategies and support materials. These are materials compiled during the planning and execution of our own successful protest at the I.C.E. Detention Facility at the Etowah County Jail on December 3, 2011. The packet, including things such as flyers/posters, sample press releases, a list of all the I.C.E. Detention Centers in the country and more, is available at Occupy Birmingham’s website: http://occupybirmingham.org/immigration/
We would like to propose that the NYCGA approve their own April 14th solidarity action and spread the word on on the I.C.E. Breaker protest as much as possible.
Thank You,
Occupy Birmingham
