Proposal for 12/20: Laundry Debt

Posted by & filed under Assemblies, Past Proposals.

My proposal is to pay Rafael Laundry $916.00 for laundry that was washed over a month ago.  I came in to volunteer to SIS a month ago and I had laundry picked up and washed and Rafael Laundry has been storing this laundry for us this entire time, since the raid happened and the person who was going to take care of the Accounting for this issue never came back, I became the default person on this project. Rafael laundry has my contact information and so they keep calling me directly for their payment.  They have been very patient and very nice, however they are looking to be paid and they need the space that all that laundry has been taking up.  Because I by default have become the bottomliner of this I am afraid that I will personally be held financially responsible for.
Since this clothes has now been washed it is clothing that can be made available to Occupiers.

I support this bill, however ONLY if there is a friendly amendment proposed that this is the LAST time we pay $$ for laundry. We have fostered a system that creates a dependent system full of entitlements. The money was donated for other purposes…not this.

If no one wants to pick up the clothes, why not donate them to the Salvation Army or the Really Really Free Market at Judson Church.

All well and good but the Comfort group gave them to Rafael Laundry to clean. Accordingly, we are under an obligation to pay the bill and collect the items or make other arrangements.
I would find it hard to believe there are not scores of supporters that do not want fresh clothing. However, if no one wants them (for wearing), then by all means, give them to a group that will give them away (not sell them).

At last night’s GA this proposal was removed by the author because a spokesperson from Comfort said that they had the budget already which would cover this and for the proposer to meet with them privately to make arrangements for payment.

Terrific! Thanks for the update Sam. I was a bit irked at the idea of a small business being out that much money at this time of year.

It would of been nice too, if the author had let us know.

BTW this STILL hasn’t been taken care of I haven’t been able to get a hold of anyone in comfort and Rafael Laundry is still calling.

Well I can’t speak for Comfort… but I think that if this still isn’t being taken care of, the original proposal needs to go back to GA. Paying the bill IMHO should come before or at the same time as holding Comfort accountable for not handling this if that’s the case.
