We, of the NY GA hereby name Occupy Edmonton to be the Occupation of the Week at #OWS. We instruct finance to provide them with the requested $6,500 worth of gear and supplies for camping plus training and public relations support.
We love you, Occupy Edmonton! We are moved by your sacrifice. Your commitment inspires us!!

Not to be ‘that guy’, but why Occupy Edmonton? Yeah, I’ve heard some good things. And as far as I can tell they sent a rep here a few days ago. Commendable. But I feel compelled to point to other occupations that are equally in need of resources: Occupy Chicago is making a real go of things despite a lot of bullshit. Occupy Atlanta too. What about other occupations that have suffered obscene police brutality, i.e. Occupy Tulsa. (Pepper spray in the face at point blank range.), Occupy Denver and Occupy Seattle.
This proposal needs a lot more specifics on why Occupy Edmonton has been chosen. And although I am almost certain any statement of solidarity with OE would achieve consensus in record time, this specific proposal needs a great deal of justification as to what criteria was used to choose OE for this “award”. While I support OE and stand in solidarity with them, I think the immediate re-allocation of resources might be more strategically implemented within the broader Occupy Movement.
However, I suspect certain pertinent clarifying information has been withheld from this proposal during the 24 hour preview…

Clarification: I haven’t previously heard of “Occupation of the Week” – is this a regular occurrence?

My new friend Lynds from OE says:
About those comments, ya. I’d say first off that it’s true. Why should OE get anything special? There are other American
Occupy’s that have been through tremendous struggle. The reason I reached out to Wall St was because I needed support. I needed my community to stay together and it was my last ditch effort. Well, You’ve Already Succeeded in keeping us together, without any donation. Just hearing your voice Eric brought us together. Just that our Big Brothers and Sisters in New York acknowledged us brought us back together. That is all.
The idea of a Occupation of the Week is new, as far as I know. Good idea, right?
The point is that it is DANGEROUS to camp in 40 below w/o the right gear. They need our help now to be safe up there.

I have lived in Edmonton, and those winters are cold as hell *indoors* i couldn’t even imagine outside.

The “Occupation of the Week” did not pass as people thought it should be a separate proposition so we dropped that part. Here is some video someone took about Edmonton at the NYC GA. It passed!
